Samsung says the Galaxy Tab Pro won't ever get Lollipop or Marshmallow

24 November, 2015
While most people are hoping their Android devices will at some point see a Marshmallow update, there are those still stuck on KitKat. For example, Samsung's Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 launched last year with Android 4.4 on board, and so far it hasn't seen any big OS updates.

I'm also fed up with the contempt Samsung treat their customers. My Tab Pro 10.1 is only a couple of years old and was not cheap but they have given up on it. Amazon are still selling it for £299!
I've just changed from a Samsung phone to a Sony running Nougat and will never go back to Samsung again. I'll look at rooting the tablet and installing a new rom but slightly nervous about bricking it,

Just got a new phone. NOT Samsung. Sick of them treating their customers with contempt. My Samsung tablet is a good piece of hardware and only 2 years old but $am$ung have given up on it. Will never buy from them again.

Updated Galaxy Tab|Pro 10.1" from 4.4.2 to Lineage OS 7.1.1 and wow it works great. Samsung updates are the worst, but thankfully 3rd parties keep the "older" devices working.

same issue as everyone else, premium hardware that had zero updates in software.

solution, google could stop bloatware and have brands go straight-up google android. alternatively, if google can figure a way to allow updating these different brands with a clean update (do away with the brand modifications), should the owner wish to do so.

i don't so much mind if the 'newer look' of the latest android version is not available, but that the older version (kitkat) is not only buggy, but that there has not been a single, all important security update since i purchased this tablet (sm-t320). my tablet is so bloated with adware i can hardly read an article or watch a show without an ad popping up. tried 3rd party security apps, but no luck thus far. will try to root and install newer version, as others have kindly suggested and linked in this thread. should not have to go there.

i also have an s6-edge phone. will not buy samsung again. as others have mentioned, apple keeps their software up to date (as per my wife's phone and tab) and for me knowing the security updates are kept current is worth the additional price of entry.

                    bye bye sammy

I just installed Cyanogen's Lollipop 5.1.1 over a stock rooted KitKat rom and I'm simply amazed at how much smoother and better the device performs overall. I definitely recommend it to everyone.

Some apps will not run on Android 4.4.2. I may have to learn to root my 8.4 Pro or pay for the service. Samsung is now Sadsunk to me.
