Samsung says the Galaxy Tab Pro won't ever get Lollipop or Marshmallow

24 November, 2015
While most people are hoping their Android devices will at some point see a Marshmallow update, there are those still stuck on KitKat. For example, Samsung's Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 launched last year with Android 4.4 on board, and so far it hasn't seen any big OS updates.

I too love my galaxy pro 10.1 tablet. I would also like to say I'm really disappointed in samsung that there is no o's system update. I recently changed my Samsung mobile to a Sony and will now look to change my Tablet to Sony . Very dissatisfied with Samsung not upgraded the Samsung pro.

Samsung we're very quick to decide the future on the galaxy tab pro because the 8 inch and 11inch versions had very poor sales. I currently own the 11inch version and I love the thing. It's quick, reliable the only thing that let's it down is the os. App vendors are starting to stop support for android 4 downwards which is making me think twice about voiding my warranty to put a custom android version which will allow me to get to android 6. I have an old tab2 which I've tried all this rooting business on before rooting my tab pro and too anyone that knows what they are doing then I would highly recommend rooting your tab and getting a custom rom installed

These are now very stable and really fly along. Make the GT Pro very fast now.

GT Pro 8.4 running CM 13 Marshmallow is still too good to be bothered with upgrading yet.

I contacted Samsung and they said that it was up to Android to provide the update, not them. Also the Tab Pro will not support Marshmallow.

first they ruin the tablet with the update so you can't write-access the sd-card anymore and then they are not able to at least repair this issue - it's not even necessary to make a complete update. but anyways, i made the first step and bought me a Sony Z5 instead of an S7. The next step will be a panasonic-tv instead of a samsung device. and when i throw my tab pro against the wall or burn it in public, i will surely find an alternative to an overestimated and undersupported samsung product

Ok, so you can't update your Tab Pro to Marshmallow...so what? You can still do everything you want with the tablet. Why do you HAVE to have the latest update? Stop bitching and enjoy your tablet. Latest firmware wont make any difference.

Time to mount a real boycott of Samsung.

This is bait and switch. Crooks.

They promised updates all along. Why would anyone pay premium prices for hardware with no support?

I root and install custom ROM cyanogenmod 12.1 on the Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 WiFi SM-T520. This tablet was on the original stock firmware 4.4.2 KitKat and is not scheduled for any upgrade from Samsung. It is notoriously slow and laggy on the stock software. This new version 5.1.1 Lollipop makes the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 perform quickly and smoothly. You can do this yourself if you are comfortable or contact the android experts at iQ Android to take care of this for you.

You can reach me on XDA Developers username: iqcomputers.

I recently bought out my contract with Verizon (painful) that had my daughter's S5 and my Note 4. This was my 3rd Note phone. I have the 10.1 Pro Tab and a Gears S. I did this to go to Project Fi and Nexus phones. Love the service and the phones. About the time Samsung manages to update the Note4 to Marshmallow I will be moving to Android N. Going to sell all my Samsung stuff including the watch as it only works with Samsung. No more Samsung for me. I was a very loyal customer for years.

This is absolutely a deal breaker. Any new device you buy at least gets 2 updates but this one got none. My tab pro 10.1 wifi has Good hardware to support the upgrade but looks like samsung is just being very stingy in satisfying the customers. Really sad. .. You will go down the drain soon. . I will ensure I never buy a Samsung, nor do I let anyone I know buy one

Latest stable release is 12.1 (Lollipop 5.1)

Nightly releases of 13.0 (Marshmallow 6.0) are released generally every night.

I installed a nightly release a month or so ago to see what Marshmallow looked like. The Cyanogen versions look different than the Android versions since they do not include the Touchwiz interface or touchwiz camera. Toucwiz only permitted with Android released versions other mods not permitted to use it... a license problem. But other than that it is the Cyanogen mods are the equivalent of Android Lollipop and Marshmallow.

What a shame. I have always bought Samsung phones and this was my first Samsung tablet. Nice Tablet although full of bloat ware but these will be the last products I buy from them because of the lack of updates to my galaxy tab pro 10.1.
I am almost tempted to buy apple..... I say almost but I have been with Android since its inception and bloat ware aside I know where I am with it and for the most part It woks. I don't expect a company to support old hardware forever but I only bought the tab less than a year ago and it was supposed to be a premium product. So bye Samsung and like others your lack of support will mean I go elsewhere

Yup this is the reason I have started making the switch back over to Apple, At least they support their products. I have already ditched My Galaxy S6 for a Iphone 6s and now that my Tab Pro is not going to be updated witch is complete B.S. I will be going to the IPad Pro soon. How can you buy their "top of the line Tablet" and you can't even do a simple OS update. Samsung is to worried about releasing their new version of smart phone 3 times a year to care about keeping their current customers up to date. I hope everyone learns that Samsung is a joke and you are just throwing away your money when you purchase their products with no after purchase support your new purchase is outdated within 6 months. what a waste of $600.
