I see it as a good step ahead in terms of the revolution it will bring about in our basic computing at the very least. We all are using octa-core CPUs anyway so why not ample RAM to support it ably ?? Think about this - maybe 8 GB is way too much , we can settle at 6. But if ideas like continuum bear fruit in the near future then who knows , we might need no PC in the future. At least basic tasks like web browsing , editing office documents , reading PDFs and sending mails can be done with both screens. Even gaming might be possible. But if you ask the machine to encode a few videos to H.265 , then that's a bit too far-fetched and not gonna happen right now

dukaki, 02 Dec 2015You assume right now, I never said 3-4 gbs aren't enough fo... moreMost good 64-bit Android phones come with the standard 3Gb, you must be thinking of low to mid range phones that are hot sellers overseas. S6/N7 users will tell you that they don't have an issue with lag or slow downs or other problems like in past models. Again if Chrome is causing you so many headaches stop using it!, there are alternative browsers out there let the people who like it and have no major issues with it continue to use it. And FF eats up the same amount of ram as Chrome beta does so I'm not going to even bother switching, don't want to since most of my favorite extensions are on Chrome and many of them aren't offered in FF; guess FF never got past its well known memory leaking issues or just barely improved them.

developers including Google and Microsoft are really ready for this they are just waiting for enough power. (Android for desktop, windows continnum full) and doesn't know anything about apple as they are always top secret. 3rd party developers are also ready for more power. considering what they are bringing to desktop and mobile

Omg so many ppl are acting as if their world stop due to this lol..
Guys stop being such crybaby whenever some does great thing in tech..
If you don't like having 8gb ram, don't worry there will be lot of phones with under 4gb, whatsmore due to this lower ram price will be decrease, so be happy and I am sure with Android (every one in world knows how much resources hungry android is) in some 6 yrs we may use all 8gb ram..like if you see 4yrs before we used just 256,then 512mb ram and here we use 4gb ram..
And for those who whine why can't android be like ios, Windows.. You are not going spend more than iPhone, Windows phone for the hardware whatever you get, even high end hardware of Android going to be under iPhone or Windows phone..

Newer SoCs are more efficient, and having more ram can only be good for battery.
                      That better?

AnonD-463876, 02 Dec 2015Can you please stop assuming? My task manager is always ope... moreYou assume right now, I never said 3-4 gbs aren't enough for stock. 4gbs aren't enough for 64bit touchwiz. Since you don't have a 64bit 2gb android device I am afraid you don't really know it works. There are numerous theads on XDA stating the obvious ram issues with Nexus 9 and 5X that use 2gb on 64bit SoCs. 3gb is just enough if you don't have many things going on, on stock android with no modifications on ram management (that samsung did with the s6,note5).
I am running Chrome Dev on my computer and it definitely consumes much more ram than firefox with the same extensions. Edge is even better sometimes, but there are no extensions yet so I can't really say it is more efficient.
Chrome using a lot of ram definitely isn't bad, there are many good reasons for it. But what happens if you simply don't have that ram? On linux/windows/osx/whatever your pc has you can rely on swapping/paging/ram compression. On android you don't have those. If you don't have enough memory things start crashing. Chrome on 64bit android is just the icing on the cake really.
