Microsoft sold only 4.5 million Lumia phones last quarter

29 January, 2016
That's down from the 10.5 million figure reported in the same quarter of the previous year.

Carol, 30 Jan 2016Boy, do i like to spank the newbees. Symbian faced decline ... moreAnyone interested can do their own research.

Yes N900 was released with Maemo but a Meego version was released to hacker community. I totally forgot about Maemo. Simple search would only show Maemo, But trust me it has a meego ROM.

You seem to like Maemo but not Android, both are derived from Linux. Both share a huge code base.

And my apologies for misunderstanding your first reply to me.

PS. Not a newbie, had a fair share of the tech world. Not involved in tech as I used to be as life happened XD

Thanks me for still re... moreSure I remember, when I was still dreaming about the N8 I was reading your comments and hoping I'll own one some day. ;-) I was wondering where you have been and the last I remember was seeing you on the 1020 page. Oh, we live on the same continent, I'm a bit more to the south, just skip a few countries. See you around. :-)

sr777, 30 Jan 2016I know Android got some of it's features from Symbian and i... moreBoy, do i like to spank the newbees. Symbian faced decline cause Nokia was to proud to recognize their are some serious threts coming to it's throne. 2010 Nokia still owned more then 30 percent of the smartphone market share. By that time they already owned Symbian and pushed devices after devices without good enough hardware. Again, they were to dumb do develope it... so they signed the death contract with ms that did not let them further expend MeeGo developement, and killed it from it's first breath: The N9, the first and the last MeeGo device. Their plan was: Symbian for lower end/middle devices and MeeGo for high end creating an universal store (cross-platform style). And boy was that a great OS to. Symbian is closed. Their is nobody developing this system, the project was shut down;) Get your facts straight!. It is not enough to hold on a soruce code;). But then again, as i already said, People are just to simple and unknowing to understand a complex system;). Of course nobody botheres to learn all what has been developed for more then 14 years to further develope for the world we are living in. A world of games facebook, tweeter and whatsapp. Their would make no sense. For this world, their are already 3 systems out;).
P.S. i never said N900 was a symbian, read my comment first, then laugh. And another P.S. N900 has Maemo 5, not MeeGo/Harmattan. Now, have a good day;).

I already said it was undepowered by lack of hardware. Now, you can't compare those phones with newer android phones;). You just, can't! I wasn't talking about speed, pay more attention to the essence of words when you come here, all cocky, to expose your ideas.

It doesn't support stronger hardware and bigger display resolutions. Nokia didn't release ALL the source code. And last Symbian phone was released years ago. My N8 still works fine with 250+ apps in it and I only have to reboot once a month or less. But Symbian is dead, Nokia was too slow. By the time Nokia Belle was released, and it's an OS that can compete with anything, Apple already had 4th iPhone and Android was running on 2 or 4 cores.

Carol, 30 Jan 2016First thig first. I never said was the best;). I sayd their... moreI know Android got some of it's features from Symbian and it is one of the earliest smartphone operating systems.

Even before Nokia embraced Windows as it's primary OS Symbian was facing it's demise unable to compete with Android or iOS. Nokia even tried Meego because Symbian was failing to capture market. If successful, it would have been MeeGo that would have been the PC in the pocket not Symbian like you said.

Even though Symbian was initially a closed source OS it was later released as a Open Source OS. Not only Nokia, other major brands like Samsung, Sony etc used the Symbian OS. Eventually they embraced Android, Nokia embraced Windows.

The code is Open Source now. Anyone interested can modify it and use it. If it's so good why no one even cares about it?

Second, symbian was killed and nobody invested in it more then 4 years now, it's kind of hard to have market share at this point, now insn't it? Third, you never used a symbian as far as i can tell, cause all you brag abou android, i was doing with symbian when you probably wasn't born yet;). From rom's to everyday itheme change, in fact symbuan is the inly system that is able to change it's theme in total without installing any shit like launchers, but just a sinple theme. Lunchers, of course were a posibility in symbian to and that was way before your android;).. Third party apps, way before your android. I can go on an on and on. Best cameras, 808, android stillcan't do that;). First usb on the go. Hdmi, fm transmiter real tasks manager. Profiles ability to change them automaticaly through third party apps. With the apps, symbian was able to change it's structure without even the need of installing roms. Still, roms were avaible. So this was done way before Android and anyother system. So yeah, for me, all this systems, are playing chech up;). If symbian would habe been further developed. You would have had now a pc in a pocket. Yeah, people don't like that and that is why, real geekes need now to settle with subpar chech up systems;). In terms of speed wasn't the best, cause was underpowered by law hardware, but If i only think about a symbian whit such hardware smartphones this days have.... I already start laughing at android ios or windows.

I don't know why you are saying Simbian is the best. Of course sometimes it is a personal preference.

Yes Android has it's weaknesses. So does all the operating systems. We have to choose what is best depending on our needs.

IMO Android fulfils the needs of most of the user needs in:

                                1. Diverse hardware selection -- Different brands, different configuration, different price options (Android - Yes | Windows - A little | iOS - Non).

                                2. Customization options -- UI, KB, Custom ROMs (Android - Yes | Windows - Non | iOS - Minor ).

                                3. Third party apps -- Not going to say Android has the best quality apps, but it has a huge collection to select from (Android - Yes | Windows - A little | iOS - Yes).

I never liked Microsoft ever since except now that they are on their way to Windows 10 finalization. For MS haters, don't ever think Android is better, Android nor iOS are only better due to the apps available in their store, maybe the user-interface also but if you talk about build and engineering, MS is more complex and more challenging, but we all know people nowadays don't like challenges and just wants easy crap Microsoft Lumia will rise with Windows 10 together with Nokia Finland with their frist flagship phone of 126GB of storage and with Android OS modified :)
