24 February, 2016
The confirmation came in the form of a Facebook comment by the German arm of the Japanese company.

Well that's disappointing, if it's indeed true. I mean they are just facebook comments.
If it's indeed true then I'm half glad because it means Z series couldn't get any better, and Z5 is their last Z series device. Z5 is the phone I plan to buy so..

Anyway, X series are not that appealing to me. I'm glad they are back at 5 inches, but X performance has almost the same size of Z5, and Z5 has 5,2 inch screen.

DonAlduck, 24 Feb 2016IMO the speaker design is much better on the Z5's, and Sony... moreI said x performance is flagship. Probably to replace Z6. You said its high end but not flagship.

Makes sense. It's overlapping with the current lineup. I think the M series will also be out, replaced with the XA.

I commented last 2days and yes my observation is correct, still the sony X performance is not the flagship model, the incoming sony X premium with 5.5inch 4k with HDR will be the flagship.. It uses metal body and almost bezelless screen like in XA version, and the battery around 3,200mah to balance weight ratio..

In that case, I need to buy the Z5 Premium Dual. Before it disappear from the market...

FromChinaWithLove, 24 Feb 2016Hahaha. Now the X performance is even more disappointed. No... moreI think wireless charging is not even that necessary. What's important is that it has quick charge 3.0 and I think Sony understood That with the sd820 the power efficiency is high plus the doze feature of 6.0, higher battery capacity is not that necessary,

Sony Ericsson's last series of Android fones were really stunning in looks. I wonder what those designs could've be in 2016 with updated tech (with capacitive screen).

I just thought that they shouldnt just abandon the Z series since it is already an established line of their phones. Updating the hardware and software will do. Z is much more premium-ish than the X (I can say a sony user for years, from the ericsson to xperia). It has already its name and reputation in the market. They could have just work on their marketing, which sucks. :(

IMO the speaker design is much better on the Z5's, and Sony should've stick with that.
The Z5's design is more elegant in my opinion.

I don't know...If this is really true, and they really want to replace the Z series with this...I'd say I prefer the Z series...much much more. Anyway, looking forward to see how this performs on the market, but I really think Sony is making another big mistake :/

Well I was waiting for that announcement! So, Sony's new Series Flagship phones will be a metal device instead of glass! I AM TERRIBLY IN LOVE WITH SONY.

Hahaha. Now the X performance is even more disappointed. No more Z series and the X series got no type-c, no wireless charge. The gimmick 4k is only on Z5 Premium( and no more for other, even the other are jus 1080). The 2 things the add or new one these phones are a camera unit with a new way of protecting the phone from water( no more USB cap).

AnonD-87500, 24 Feb 2016no matter X or Y or Z, i stick to Sony !It's an engineering failure that Sony engineers cannot fit at least 3000mah battery on X Performance, when Galaxy S7 has a smaller footprint and has IP68 also, designer failed by making it thinner at 7.3mm, it could easily accommodate 3200mah if they make it 7.9mm thick. Sony copying thin overpriced Iphones, and so the X series are overpriced.
