this could be samsung fault for not optimising sd 820, battery life from xiaomi mi5 look promising than s7 edge with huge battery

AnonD-246723, 20 Mar 2016You know who I hate the most? People who pretend to know st... moreOh boy. GSMArena battery test is done by loading a text only Web page every once in a while. GPU can't be used for this.

You would have known that if you studied how OPENGL worked. And even if GPU somehow worked for that, both GPU would be at less than 1% load, making the argument absolutely pointless, just like you are.

Glad that the 8890 is found in the international model.

Herodroid, 20 Mar 2016though, can't believe that 8 core CPU is more battery effic... moreNot really look at desktop processors multi cores are far more efficient that high clock speed processors as they require less voltage for the same performance. As you increase clock speeds voltage has to increase, not by a little bit but by ALOT. Theres a reason by clock speeds have been fairly stagnant as the voltage required for high clock speeds becomes more of a con. Now Samsung employs heat-pipes in their phones which means no more thermal throttling like all other phones but will have to adhere to the TDP of the processor.

Herodroid, 20 Mar 2016though, can't believe that 8 core CPU is more battery effic... moreit is. since when a power hungry app is running, all eight cores run at 100% power. when its power saving, only four low-clockspeed cores are running. that does help saving battery life.

These tests don't even activate the GPU. SD video playback requires codec, web browsing requires CPU and calling requires modem.

These aren't GPU bound tests at all. You are just a blind snapdragon fanboy misleading people here.

And the adreno 530 is not faster than Mali. It's slower in some tests( Manhattan 3.0), similar in some tests( Manhattan 3.1/T-Rex) and even behind in basemark Es 3.1. Furthermore, Mali doesn't throttle like the adreno does. Read anandtech on how adreno 530 has a boost clock to just get higher benchmarks and it throttles so badly after that.

Go figure. And don't comment next time without knowing anything.

AnonD-509482, 20 Mar 2016exynos version s7 win this time. samsung soc is likely much... morethe battery performance hit on the sd820 variant is directly dude to the much more powerfully (25% more powerful) gpu in the SD820. It typically is the gpu that uses the most power (after the display). So its a trade off, but you get a much better graphics performance, destroying everything else in the market. Yup adreno is sticking to its majestic AMD radion heritage.

Inb4 a developer releases a better optimised ROM for SD820 version and the battery life improves.

Wait, what? Lol after seeing Xiaomi Mi5 battery endurance rating i thought that Snapdragon 820 is the more efficient one. But nevermind, really. If Xiaomi Mi5 can score that high with "only" 3000 mAh, a little tweaks (or software upgrade) can make S7 edge lasts longer too, although the screen resolution could be the case...

Lol I predicted this back when Samsung announced India would be getting the Exynos version which was typically followed by outraged Indian users claiming Samsung was cheating them. I said wait and watch the Exynos version will have better battery life and they will back peddle and do a 180 degreen turn and then love the Exynos version. Looks like today is that day.
