Even though iphones cost premium in India comparing to other countires, not only urban areas but somewhat in rural areas also iphones are selling like a hot cake. Most of them buy iphone 5s: as its cheap and can be used to show off apple's logo. I hope Tim cook will get serious about Indian market and stop thinking as a dumping market for their outdated iphones. In last visit to India he said India is not potential market to open stores in India and these figures will definitely change his mind.

Rayne , 27 Jul 2016Mainly due to unnecessary need to upgrade an iPhone every year! Still using an iPhone 5s from 2013, this I'd not Android. Same thing with Nokia, my brother still uses 1520 from 2013 and it still works on W10M flawlessly.

AnonD-124236, 27 Jul 2016Just a matter of time that the sheep will wake up...All four Dolly clones are doing pretty well.

Chinese market is flooded with apple replicas running android.
        Prices much lesser than apple.
        Hence, bleak chances out there.

In India, two types of people buy iPhones - one: who knows what it is to have an apple as user experience and two: Who consider iPhone as a status symbol ( no comments on how much they know to use ots potentials)

AnonD-104966, 27 Jul 2016Iphones should not die, as it will leave google to control ... moreApple should not die because google will have monopoly - there are 2 issues with that statement, as far as I am concerned.

                1. Google is really not having monopoly with Android, because they are not a hardware OEM. There are hundreds of OEMs making smartphones using Android. Their services are not even present in china. Still Chinese OEMs have their own versions of Android and will continue to have, so the question of monopoly is really out of place.
                2. Apple is not going out of smartphone business anytime soon (at least for another 5-10 years). I don't see that happening for multiple reasons (loyal fanboys, app store getting all the apps first in their ecosystem, excellent marketing etc etc). Their sales will decline for sometime AND then become steady at some level (not sure what that number is). This world (I am talking about the smartphone world here) has enough space for iOS and Android to co-exist for the next 5 to 10 years at least (if not more).

With $500+ price range apple wont be selling much iPhones in INDIA. Usual rich people only buy.. thats all. If general public needs to buy iphones then price needs to be $100-$250 only which apple wont do.

Anonymous, 27 Jul 2016iphone dead I don't think iphones will die, like nokia/BB did. While the iphone sales are dropping, they are not going out of business anytime soon (at least for another 5 years). It is a very slow decline, not like nokia/BB - a very steep decline in a very short period of time. Remember, apple still makes 90% of overall profits in smartphones.

Btw, I am an android fan so don't accuse me as Apple fanboy.
