Take for exam... moreAgreed. tbh, i dont support the idea of selling mid range phones for higher prices but for Sony, thats how it works as they sell very limited units so they have set their profit margins way higher on per unit device sold. They have the highest per unit profit earned than any other Android OEM, thats how they are surviving.

iPhone is different case where they is their high spec and price as no others competitor. iOS and Android is totally different two system and iOS there only choice is Apple where Android have plenty choice to pick with.

You know, Sony did its first waterproof phone in 2012 (Xperia Go) and Samsung did it in 2014 with S5 which ofcourse was a failure but the shame is that world came to know about this "innovation" of Samsung in 2014 which was done two years earlier by Sony. Thats how Samsung takes credit in the minds of normal people due to their aggressive marketing and penetration in global markets.

If i tell you that a phone with 2GB of RAM can beat a phone with 4GB RAM? (iPhones 6s vs. Note7 in speed tests).
High specs is not an art, the art is, to optimize a phone very well that even on 2GB, it works like it does not need any more specs in it. You getting my point?
I see that you have used a lot of phones lately in previous years and i assume you have a lot of phone exposure now but you havent even tried an Xperia after 2013. I suggest you use a Z5 now (as it has got relatively cheaper) then tell me how did you like it.

Sony just had a profitable last quarter and are better off financially if compared with LG, htc and Motorola. And Nexuses, well no android phone can compare itself with Nexuses, they are in a totally separate race.

to many people nowdays think that being well marketed, expensive, and trendy must mean a superior product. Which is simply not true. It's crazy how much influence marketing has on people's willingness to buy something more so than the objective qualities of said product.
it's why sony phones are underrated. Samsung made cheap plastic golf ball phones with laggy ass touchwiz. Yet people still purchased those for flagship prices. It shows that people who buy samsung think they are buying a better alternative to apple. Samsung really did capitalize on the "alternative" people.
Samsung always made subar phones meanwhile Sony made the best premium smartphones with ip68 ceritfication way before the s7. if Sony had good marketing people would be buying Sony now instead of samsung.
People are stupid.

I change randomly from a lot brand but no longer for Sony, my last Sony is Xperia Z Ultra because Sony never improve since Z series and never fix it terrible output camera.
Below is all my existing phone I use before, I am not any brand fans, I only pick the best that time. (Except iPhone because I never like iOS).
My android phone start with Google Nexus One, Samsung Galaxy S II, Samsung Galaxy S III, Sony Xperia Z, Sony Xperia Z Ultra, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, HTC One M8, Redmi Note, Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Xiaomi Mi3, Moto Nexus 6, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, Mi 4i, LG G4, Samsung Galaxy Note5, Redmi Note 3, Oppo F1, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and my current latest phone is Huawei P9 Plus.
My future phone is targeting at Samsung Galaxy Note 7 or maybe LG V20 (need wait it announcement 1st).

People loves gimmick, except young male who loves gaming like you. Active smart young male who better something productive than gaming, girls, woman, oldman, business man all love it. And thats why Sammy still cant break S4 sales. S4 is king of gimmick.
So, with Bezelia only attract young male who loves gaming, and not all of them have money. And bezelia still have to compete with nexuses, Motorola, and HTC. Thats why bezelia is not selling.

And for music, i just insert my headset in 3.5mm jack and music starts playing.
I get it that due to those gimmicks, Oppo CAN sell. If they wont offer such gimmicks, they dont even have a market reputation over which they can sell a phone unlike Sony.
Sony can play on its name and sell on higher prices as long as they want because people still prefer durability over gimmicks. Tell me when your Oppo dies in an year while my old Xperia Neo V from 2011 is still up and running and Xperia SP from 2013 as well. Oppo and other Chinese brands can only dream about it.

With Oppo phone, from offscreen i can take a picture with a single action, press and hold power button, done. It even doesnt need to wake up the screen. Thats called blind shot.
What about music? You will unlock the screen, find music icon, tap it, then tap play button?
From offscreen i can jump to this page to reply your comment. Can you? No.
What i mean is Oppo has attractive product, and good marketing, thats why they selling good. Bony even if they spend a lot of money with their product, they wont make it.
