Oculus warns Gear VR users against using the headset with Samsung Galaxy Note7

05 September, 2016
If you own the Samsung Galaxy Note7-compatible Gear VR, you should refrain from using the headset with the smartphone. That's what Oculus - whose technology powers the VR headset - is saying.

Simon, 07 Sep 2016VR heats the chipset which dissipates the heat to device's ... moreVr also heats the battery alot.i am using a Vr and i know that.my batteries give warning of high battery temp so thats not true ok.it heats both cpu and battery so dont use note 7 with vr for now until you are sure your note 7 battery is not faulty or until you dont get a fixed version from samsung.oculus knows what they are warning users for.

AnonD-448401, 05 Sep 2016I meant that using vr heats up the devices alot so heating ... moreVR heats the chipset which dissipates the heat to device's metal frame and heats up the battery by a couple degrees C. It is very unlikely that it could trigger any fault in the battery since as someone pointed out very accurately (meltdown, don't breath fumes) the problem lies in the battery cell's faulty design, and by far the most common way to trigger such things is applying higher voltage to the battery, not heat. So charging, especially fast charging would be the trigger to the deadly effect. I think they should also point that out, since they're already losing a billion I'm surprised they did the right thing but failed so hard on informing people. That, however is typical of Korean companies, I worked for one, and it always baffled me. That said, for Gear Vr the worst thing would be while using it when plugged to the charger. That said, there is a tiny risk I wouldn't take that the battery might just go off spontaneously.

Haha turns out the cells are manufactured by a different division if Samsung so they have no one to sue but themselfs this will hurt their pocket for sure.

if this SH*T happened in ifon, they will be saying that you are using the phone wrong. LOL
it might be a good thing this happened to Samsung flagship, cause they have billions to spend for replacements.

Probably we will see a lot of videos in youtube regarding Note7 meltdown.

Its not an explosion, its an exothermic reaction in the failing battery cell it acts like a thermal meltdown in the middle of the phone and can last around two minutes or so with temps upwards of a 800 degrees C so you can see why the phones look like toast once then reaction has finished they should advise what to do in the event of this emergency like throw on a none fire hazard material like concrete, outdoors in a well ventilated area to leave the reaction take place and do not breath the toxic fumes, step well back. as well as recall them.

Who will be that unintelligent, knowing that right know is being reported that the Note 7 can cause a safety issue is being recall and still exposed themselves to such risk. I spoke to one customer service representative from a carrier and he had the most ignorant remark ever and I quote Oh why should I be concern this issues happen all the way in China have nothing to do with our phones here. I guess the Mobil carrier fail to notify his workers that 35 other cases are involved. By the way his not exchanging his device his waiting to see what happens. They make the customer uneasy wanting for you to return your devices but yet the same people working with the Mobil carrier are doubtful of such claims.

Wolfy, 05 Sep 2016I still Have mine (canada) and im having no issue. My phone... moreI don't know how things work in Canada but are you saying they replace your phone with any refurbished flagship temporarily while they get your Note7 fixed? Or they exchanged it permanently with the refurbished phone and you will lose the Note7? Because that sucks. I only know Telus from Canada.

Julliard, 05 Sep 2016It is nice to see Oculus also emphasizing on safety first. ... moreI still Have mine (canada) and im having no issue. My phone is never hot except when playing pokemon go or when directly in the sun.... when charging it has a cool temperature. plus providers have shitty echange progam til the note 7 gets the replacements here...either a s5 neo refurbish or lg g4 and galaxy s6 and all have to be refurbish...so im waiting til they are again available...i want note7 for note7 not some old tech.
