As a former employee of Samsung, I can tell you now Samsung is NOT cheap. They are the forefront runners in NAND Flash chipset innovation and companies like Apple, Sony, LG whathaveyou are forced to buy from Samsung, cause they simply make cheap, realiable flash chips. The only true competitor Samsung has in the NAND front is Toshiba, but they're rather infamous for slower write speeds.

Can you see pixels on these or are both companies trying to play catch up to Apple?

As a Korean I personally find the last two posts rather racist-based, but let's try and view the issue from a wider standpoint-point-of-view.

Samsung produces ALOT of TVs these days. And granted, they produce alot of varying low-end panels with various features. As do LG. The thing is, they're trying to give the end-user (aka, the customer) more choice. And again, granted, many potential customers will find the LCD panel market far to populated and confusing. There are some TVs with certain features that other brands may or may not have. And there are certain models (within the same brand) that will have features that other models will not have, despite being in the same price segment. In the end it's up to you to know what you want and how much you want to pay for that particular feature; you choose what you want to dish up your cash for. Yet despite the choices given you complain about something not having a feature, well then you epic fail since you didn't research enough (...headphone jacks...)

As for the pricing. Korean products are significantly cheaper than European products as labour costs are cheaper in Asian countries (..duh..). But note, most European products are all HIGH-END devices. Bose's Audio Division being one. Philips TVs are more and more rare in the average-Joe's budget line these days and they too are starting to head into expensive territories. One thing we should all know though - Korean manufacture costs are more expensive than their Chinese counterparts, and I'm sure everyone will agree, we do build stuff with alot more quality control than the Chinese without a doubt.

Now onto Japanese products. They still produce excellent products that the world all know have extremely high levels of quality-control and reliability. But I'm sure everyone also now know that their time in the sun (Sony being most notable) is fading. Only in the past few years has Sony started using Samsung's own LCD panels for their low to mid end TVs. And for their MP3 players, they are rather dependent on Samsung's NAND-FLASH components and technology. Overall, the most notable is the Japanese playing catch-up in regards to display panel technology. It was a bad investment move in Japan a few years back but one that took its toll (Japanese companies, spear-headed by Sony, thought projectors were the way of the future when Samsung thought it was LCD panels; we all now know how that turned out...).

I hate to break to all youse who are rather anti-Korean (or anti-Asian for that matter). Our region has suffered 2x wars in the last century alone. Our traditions and values were lost and were remade with shear effort and desire for success. And we're now (or have been for the last 20 years in the case of Japan and Korea) emerging as technological super-powers on the planet. Heck, Europe has been in a similar scenario to us but then they focus on expensive electronics so they're in a different niche to us altogether (and they don't make as much net profits as the Asian regions when it comes to electronics sales); though yes, they too have recovered remarkably the past century or so.

So I don't really think people are justified in saying Korean products are shoddy. More like, the people are complaining since they don't know how to use their own electronics, or more like people don't know how to choose the right thing for their own ends when companies like Samsung, LG, and even Sony has offered then a myriad of choices.

And the unfortunate reality is, people are too committed to a single brand today (example being Apple-fans buying all things Apple, but I won't get involved in such an argument here). You ain't limited to just Samsung or just LG. Hell, if you have the money I don't really care if you dish out extra for luxury European devices when we all know they execute the exact same core functionality as the cheaper Korean, Japanese, or even Chinese products in the long run. So what if European products offer more quality (ie, high quality headphones that have huge frequency responses)? Most people, including yourself, won't be able to tell the difference between a cheaper product. (I admit though I can hear the difference between .flac files and 320kbps .mp3 files so I'm not really in that category in regards to audio). I'd say to all people reading, get what you need, when you need it. Don't go buying something cause it's hip; manufacturers are laughing their ways to the bank with your hard-earned cash when you do. And don't buy from a single particular brand; some brands excel over others in particular segments, and all you as end-users have to do to find out is to do some RESEARCH; find some reviews. The internet is there for a reason...

As an electrical engineer, I don't really suffer from the above issue as I know what I want and need in anything electrical. But the less-informed (ie, your average-Joe customer) will not. Alas, my views above might be biased...

...But yeah... My 2 cents worth.
