LG G6 won't have any Friends as the company gives up on modular accessories

21 October 2016
The one-off modular experiment didn't work out for the G5, so LG is dropping it completely.

Those modular accesories are useless. They are the same useless things as Moto Mods.

Those are nothing more than proprietary accessories / attachments. Proprietary, because they work only with G5 / Moto Z phones. Accessories, because they don't mod the phone: they don't replace anything in the phone (CPU, camera, RAM, screen, ...), they are just separate devices, attached to the phone.

In the past, there already were partly modular / moddable phones: for phones that have removable battery AND removable back cover, you could replace the battery to a bigger, higher capacity one (for example ZeroLemon, MbuyNow, Mugen, ... extended batteries).

There is only one useful accessory slot: USB port with USB OTG support. And the USB OTG offers standard, useful, more features for ANY phone that supports USB OTG than any Moto Z or LG G5 accessory do.

Anonymous, 22 Oct 2016I learned my lesson with LG. First, my G2 had yellow spots ... moreyes project zero (0) yeah but zero customers after removing access to the battery and sd card and water proof , then they put same device thicker in order to hide the camera bump and copies the squared style ios icons and then releases note 7 which is a complete disaster ... im a lg g4 owner well I know that the phone is no perfect ... and lg lost a lot of customer because of this and still loosing due to design on g5 but for me is fine but better than that is functionality , I got my g4 4 because of the georgeus screen camera quality which is on if not better that many 2016 flagships

          SHOCKER!

The G5 didn't sell well, but you can't blame it on optional modular acessories. How about an abysmal design with a smaller display and huge bezels? They were gaining market share with their trademark G-series design. You don't radically change the design when you're gaining market share year by year. You just DON'T. It's common sense to the lay-person, yet these execs get paid millions of dollars to be absolute morons.

          Hire me instead, LG.

I learned my lesson with LG. First, my G2 had yellow spots on the screen, got the G3 with the same issues, plus the cracks on the case thanks to the "excellent" build quality (same happened with my Xperia arc not too long ago), the G4 got into bootloop two months after I bought it, replaced it with a G Flex 2 which had a bad screen (bad whites and greys with lots of spots) and after that gave up on LG completly. G5 is such an ugly ass phone with the same bad battery life LG had since the G3, even worse from what I read, so no thank you. The G6 must be a really revolutionary phone if LG wants me back. Until then, my OnePlus 3 from a freaking unknown brand which makes phones for less than 3 years has not a single issue so far and LG, who makes phones for what, 15 years? Or more? And they still can't figure it out. I'm feeling sorry for them as I really liked the UI on the G3 and G4 and they had decent cameras and screens with minimal bezels (still love the G2's design, had the white one, I'd buy another one if it had Marshmallow). Do something right with the G6. Samsung named the S6 the Project Zero and started all over again in every way. Do the same.

G5 Friends will be more successful if they use non-proprietary connection, such as wireless bluetooth or something. It's impractical to attach-detach phone module.

The secret recipe for a good phone is..
                          Large screen small phone
by this i mean making the screen as big as possible but the overall phone as small as possible so it easily fits in a pocket but not making bezels so small it makes it uncomfortable to handle.
Long life battery but phone feels light
A battery is needed to easily last the day even with heavy use but not make the phone feel like a lead weight in your pocket..
Great camera, waterproof, dual speakers and micro sd slot then your onto something.
I think LG need to look back at the LGG2 i think they were onto somthing there and almost nailed it.

They could build best smartphone in the world and still wouldn't sell, for LG it's not about product, its about lack of brand name.

I am a happy and proud user of LG V10 (with zero-lemon battery). I have no complains against it so far and to be honest I am not a casual user as well. If I am not doing something important, I am on my phone all the time. Only thing I request of LG is to do something with the battery life, so, that we won't need to depend on third party options.

Could it be that people also don't like crappy GPS, crappy speakers and other crappy things and that's why they are not interested, but not because of the idea of modules?

LOL, manufacturers are trully insane, so out of touch with their users's opinions and preferences. Out of touch with reality, actually.

People don't want YOUR modular implementation and the conclusion is they don't want modules at all? These modules were expensive and impractical.

Anyway, at least keep the removable batteries, add 2 sim slots+sd and make the battery bigger and that would be good enough, considering what others offer.
