Sony might be legally bound to disable the fingerprint readers on its US phones

28 February 2017
Interestingly enough, its not due to some government regulation either.

The real reason for dropping power button intergrated fingerprint sensor of US models is that HP owns US patent for that technology. Sony or HP is not willing to license the patent so we are stuck with the current situation, thanks the US patent system.

AnonD-442017, 28 Feb 2017Kept my Z3 for 2 years and took it to swimming pool as well... moreSincerely, I really liked that phone, the camera was good, not great (Being 99% the same as Z3, good didn't meant good for 1 year later phone ), the screen was great, the speakers decent and selfie camera awesome, my only complains were because of the old Android 4.4 which was running on it:the sub-par battery life (if I didn't turned on Stamina mode it would discharge in 10H of idle because of non-stop background stuff, it was warm also, but Stamina would make it last a day with medium usage) and the sluggish performance because the RAM was nearly full all the time...ironically, the accident went in April and in May, 1 month later, the Android Lollipop was out with the fixes to the problems I was struggling for a year and 2 months...but Lucky you with Z3, maybe I was just unlucky and some people enjoyed it for more time

AnonD-392500, 01 Mar 2017Not true. Only sony has issues with fingerprint scanner in USIt is true.

Sony could just pay the licensing fee in order to have the fingerprint feature enabled on the U.S. Xperias, but they choose not to. Yet, they charge like $800 for their flagships. So basically, they're dirt cheap.
