Sony might be legally bound to disable the fingerprint readers on its US phones

28 February 2017
Interestingly enough, its not due to some government regulation either.

FromChinaWithLove, 28 Feb 2017I was talking about this problem a couple days ago here whe... moreFingerprint: less than 1 sec to unlock

Eye scanner: turn screen on, slide to see the " circles". Look at then to fit in your eyes..

    At least 5 seconds

I was talking about this problem a couple days ago here when GSM arena posted about the new Sony phones.
As a xperia Z3 ( or Sony xperia phone user), let's just be honest, guys. Sony made bad decision for their mobile department almost all the time!

Like seriously, Z5 fingerprint and now they've got XZ premium and a camera upgraded version of XZ and they still choose to go with the always disabled fingerprint, but not a Iris eyes scanner. Why, Sony? Why?

And where the hell is the wireless charging? Ever since the xperia Z series, me and my friend who also a Sony phone fan was talking about how stupid it is that you've got water and dust resistance but not wireless charging.
And all these years, now that the Z series is long gone and XZ is their thing. But there's still no wireless charging, and even types-C came pretty late.

Ever since Z5( or the end of Z3+), they took away one of the charging port and they don't give a second charging option!

Sure, these are the smart business moves we all got used from Sony US...
To aggravate the insult to your intelligence, they imply deals are written in stone. Like it's unheard of anyone ever daring do renegotiate a bad deal (with a party that apparently doesn't even want to sell their phones in the first place).

I'm now waiting for the excuse, sorry I mean legal explanation, for their huge bezels. That's gotta be it too!

Sony uses a fingerprint reader from swedish Fingerprint Cards AB who supply almost every Tier 1 and Tier 2 manufacture of mobilephones in the world. And alot of this models are sold in US, Google Pixel for one.

AnonD-39937, 28 Feb 2017For years Sony is killing itself with stupid decisions,like... moreKept my Z3 for 2 years and took it to swimming pool as well and after the two years the only problem I had with it was that it's a slippery phone and the camera in low light is terrible and it also charges quite slowly and these are litterally the only complaints I have about it. Its the Best phone I ever had.

For years Sony is killing itself with stupid decisions, like they don't want to be successful. First they put sub-par displays(felt it on X8, E1 and Arc S), then cameras with 20mp(felt it on Z1)but lower quality than 8mp cameras, after that water resistance which isn't water resistant because it dies when you put it water(my Z1 really died after 30s of water),sub-par speakers when they are a speaker manufacturer(heard it on X8,Arc S,Z1,M4 Aqua), dated chipsets(felt it on X8,Arc S) and fingerprint sensor disabled because of contracts???!!! (didn't felt this because didn't have any fingerprint sensor :)) ). After owning 5 phones made by Sony I give up, it's enough crap for a lifetime, they can do much more than marketing, they can really do the ultimate phone, considering that they manufacture displays, cameras and speakers. But until then I will buy a Pixel , maybe Pixel 2.

A friend used to work at Sony Mobile USA. He told me back the first time this came up that there are some patent issues. I even shared it in comments here back in the day. Clearly, you pay good attention to the tips you receive here. Now, go comb the USPTO patent DB for the answer.
