Sure it's beat up, but I can tell you it still turns on, will last around two-thirds on a charge than what it used to when it was new. Oh it can still do basic phone tasks.
Moral: don't generalize. Not everyone thinks like you, and their opinion is as good as yours.

A typical lition ion battery lasts upto 300 to 500 cycles or 2 to 3 years, which evet comes first before it starts showing signs of deteriation. Even if the battery is shelfed, its the same.
Also, the decrease in battery capacity over time is rather exponential. Meaning if you lost 10% in 2yrs then you'd loose another 20% or more after another yr. So after 4 yrs its practically usuable unless charging quite frequently isn't an issue.

People don't want mediocre performance in any department with removable battery.
Many people want a top dog of their time.
Galaxy Note 4 is an excellent example for Samsung.
Batteries under heavy usage won't last 5 hours by current criteria.
In real life, a removable battery means carry 100% charge safely and instantly.
5 Fully charged spare battery, means true 15Ah juice, and its weight is same as a fake 20Ah battery pack, which is not comparable to a spare battery.
Power packs at the same time, fast charge the phone's battery and keep the phone awake.
Under heavy tasks, even battery chargers are unable to keep the phone on. You must at least for 10 minutes interrupt you task to keep the phone cool in order to receive power for charge and use.
Spare Battery means, turn off the phone for maximum 2 minutes, if not in hurry, then start the phone with 100% charge.
I have an Idea for companies which like to keep the phone awake during battery replacement.
There can be a 200mAh emergency battery inside the phone as a UPS. When the main battery turned into 3%, switch to emergency battery, then battery can be replaced with no interrupt in on-line uninterruptable tasks.
But a 6mm weak phone with a bulky case to protect fragile aluminum body is neither for technology, nor for business. Current being slim trend is just for fashion. among 20 to 30 percent of flagship buyers are fashion slaves; so, others either are forced to use them and swap them annually, or do nothing except tolerate this hurricane, until it ends.
Lumia 1020 is a lightweight portable tool for landscape billboard size photography. Professionals who do this job are not few. The problem is that their 1020 is almost dying thanks to battery. They have to carry their 50MP DSLR for daylight photography. Isn't it Funny? I think it is.

I have S6edge since day 1, so now 2 years old, it has sealed battery and it has not deteriorated... at least not as much for me to feel it. It still holds 2 full days of charge and that is far beyond of what I need. I could still use the phone until it last at least a day and at this rate (considering it lost maybe 10% over 2 years) I can still use it for another 8-10 years.... Which would be mental. The reason I have not upgraded yet is that new Samsung phones has bigger than s6 edge I consider too big... and that is the only reason, and not the battery. Before I used to upgrade each year. Obviously, I could upgrade to s7 non-edge, but s6 edge just looks more premium and modern. s6 is in fact slimmer and looks sleeker. The last phone I had problems with battery was s4 and as you know it had replaceable battery (and it was replaced by warranty), s5 battery was deteriorating quite quickly as well, but that is not the case for s6... so you really need to strike out planned obsolescence from Samsung - sealed batteries lasts longer than anyone would keep the phone.
