Samsung knows how bad the position of the fingerprint scanner is on the S8 and S8+

29 March 2017
Just in case you were wondering - the company clearly realizes that you can easily smudge the camera lens.

AnonD-270570, 30 Mar 2017Well,, it won't.. People who use S6 edge /edge +/ Note 5/ S... more"People who use S6 edge /edge +/ Note 5/ S7 know the difference between touching the camera and the heart rate monitor"

There are others which are not even prior Samsung phone users.... Not everyone in the world is using Samsung phones. Most of reviewers are complaining about the bad position of the finger print sensor but only you think it is alright. geez....

The current fingerprint scanner on the S8 looks suspiciously similar to past Samsung homebuttons. It's almost as if they wanted to get rid of their homebutton/fingerprint scanner stock, which obviously cannot be used anymore on their flagship (thanks to Infinity Display). Hopefully, this design will change soon and that is part of the reason why I am waiting for the Note8.

A lot of biased comments 😂😂😂

When IP7 came out, my issue is the same design. Thats all. But the black version is such a beautiful device. Thats why i still chose the iP7.

Now with the S8, great design and features, but that oddly shaped and positioned FS is an eyesore. My OC-ness cant handle it. NEVERTHELESS, weighing the pros and cons, definitely, the S8 is one of the best android devices in the market.

          I think what happened with the fingerprint reader is two fold;

1). I fully believe the reports that Samsung was trying to get the reader embedded in the front display and ran out of time.

2). I do think they are trying to shift people toward's their iris recognition software anywhere, so I'm sure that made them consider the fingerprint reader more of an afterthought than anything.

Personally, I don't particularly like using a fingerprint unlock anyway - there's only a few phones where it works as fast as I want it to (the iPhone and the OP 3T), and Samsung has never been one of them.

I'll say it again.. really silly to say this! Every single time i practice hitting what is the speaker on my secondary device (J5 06) i never ONCE mistakenly hit the camera.. so how are people going to miss the scanner and smudge the camera?!! Your brain learns pretty fast where the fingerprint scanner is!!

I think this is just Samsung trying to move you to use iris scanning instead of fingerprint. Purposely making fingerprint unlock difficult.

Lens smudges are overrated. Some guy made a test with big Nikon camera where he in succession - put fingerprints on the front lens of the camera, put water stains, dirt, then scratched front lens, then broken front lens with hammer (only the front one, not to damage others), then scratched back lens (where lens connects to camera body). And provided unscaled pictures at each stage.
Basically dirt, prints and scratches are invisible on the result pictures, scratches can be visible with max zoom and only when you know where to look and have comparison pics. Broken (destroyed) front lens results in slightly washed out colors in the zone where the hole in glass is situated. Back lens damage resulted in severe picture degradation.
I don't worry too much about prints on my phone lens and apparently manufacturers feel the same way (or someone would already market their solution to hell).

Deliberate fail from Samsung because the finger print sensor that was meant to be under the bottom 1/8 of the screen wasn't ready. This 'defect' will give them something to 'improve' in the S9.

Great work on the design but no quick charge 4.0, no bigger battery and the same lens from last year. No accessories thrown in aside from AKG headphones either. Perhaps a choice between fast wireless charger, battery enhancer case or even an attachment for the lens to get even better pictures. Hard to be optimistic when LG did such a great job and are asking for less money.

There used to be a heart rate sensor. I have used it many times on S6 and never touched the lens, but there is a camera bump on S6.

At least they admit it. For those not buying. We get it! You hate the fingerprint sensor. I dont need to read hundreds of comments saying the same thing. Keep your opinion to yourself if you are about to write the same thing again.

i think they know exactly what they are doing, they are trying to promote their iris scanner and face recognition technologies, i personally think this is the starting of the end of the fingerprint scanner.

I'm disappointed with S8, sure but fingerprint sensor isn't that badly placed. I mean it is very easy to get used to it after a few tries as our index finger usually rest nearby. Just like the LG's back buttons, which were a little odd at first but really useful later when you finally get it.

Wait for truly innovative device this year with touch sensitive frame
