I think the reviews on the camera had an impact. Unlike other brands, only early adapters or only tech enthusiasts would likely to buy a phone from an totally unknown brand. And these people won't be spending without a good research.

Not because I hate those devices or Apple.
Merely for the fact that they're too damn expensive.
If those products flop, then it would cause Apple to compete on price and drive more competition in the market.
Because right now Apple and Samsung are steadily increasing their prices.
Even the "cheap" OnePlus device has become not-so cheap.
I feel like the price of the components in each unit may decrease, but the increased sales price does nothing but bloat the profit margins of various OEMs.

If it didn't have the lower bezel, the sales would have been 5 million. I would have bought one on the first day, regardless of the inferior camera.

Ph1 is good. But good phone will not sell their goodie in 2017. They just become a filler for the tech world. A thing that good to know but not to use.
We need phone that created to more babysit the user. Not some featureless that give more task to us.

Because Essential had to appear from nowhere with a phone costing too much. How OnePlus succeeded is that they manage to sell a flagship at the same cost as how much it's manufactured and the hype was made by limited availability and referrals. Essential didn't do any of this so this like Apple from the old days is considered as a Hipster Phone.
The Headphone Jack module is a good bonus though/
