Remember, Apple controls every aspect of their marketing, including what is sold where. Create the demand ( hype it up) and then control the supply. Supply & demand management 101.

$649 for the unlock iPhone 4 is a bargain... Not even close to overprice.. We in NZ = $1100. That is overprice..

I think this is a move by apple to cash in on the iPhone 4 before the iPhone 5(or 4g) is released. $499 for the 16gb would have been a good deal even though the iPhone is showing it's age now ...

I've never experienced LOCKED phones, as ALL gsm phones sold in my country (New Zealand) are unlocked including all iphones from day 1. So would anyone envy?? Please dont... I would rather have a LOCKED iphone and have so much more cheaper and free services... On going contract cost to have a smartphone in this country is so~~ expensive, and so little you get for it. EG; $50NZD per month (which is about $44USD) would get you 100MB (that's right megabites) of data, 60mins of calling and 500 txts. To go upto 3GB + 200mins of calling and 2000 txts, you'd pay about $95USD per month.... which is still so little still
