Weird bug, but well... Thank God there are other phones available.

Super sloppy reporting with an outright incorrect title and more vagueness in the actual text. WhatsApp has NOT confirmed any end of support date for WP 8.1 and W10M. The linked older news article that supposedly says so has absolutely nothing about Windows Phone, any version.
The article also claims that all of these platforms have been long neglected by their owners. However, Blackberry OS 10 is still officially supported by BB until end of 2019 and recent versions of Windows 10 Mobile are also supported by Microsoft. Both operating systems have even received updates in 2017, although in case of BBOS 10 only as a beta.In any case, W10M will continue to receive security updates until 2020, and BB has not ruled out further security updates for the BBOS 10.3.3.

Note that this is only the very old (and hardly used) Windows Phone 8.0.
Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 10 Mobile are still very much supported.

Windows OS is far from dead, the phones atm are dead.
Most fluid OS I have used to date, I am currently a Apple 6 user.
