I think Siri is just a glorified side-tracker that Apple have used to fool their loyal customers. Now don't be quick to judge, I am not an apple hater. I was one of those people who were eagerly waiting for the Iphone5 (or what ever)which would have had a revolutionary design and iOS-5. But it wasn't to be. To make things worse Steve Jobs passed away. With such disappointment back-to-back, I bought a Samsung Galaxy S2. Just a toy but none the less, its my temporary anti-depressant. :)

I for one, am actually happy to live in such times of strong competition. Remember the days of Nokia vs SE? All there was to argue about was camera camera camera lol.

Very lucky now, multiple OSes iOS, Android, WP7, Bada, Meego, and even newer ones coming up on the horizon. Manufacturers also strong, each with their unique personality SE, Nokia, Apple, HTC, Motorola, Samsung.

So much choice, and yet still so much room for growth. Amazing.

Siri is not voice control, it is AI. You can chat with it, and it understands. Easiest example is Knight Rider, on your phone.

Military grade artificial intelligence is now on the iPhone. Welcome to the future:

And Siri isn't just a Voice Command app, it's roots can be traced to SRI and DARPA's project CALO, the largest AI project EVER launched.

android fan , 12 Oct 2011samsung galaxy s2 has voice talk and other simular app to t... moreYes definitely. Voice control is very old technology, even when dumbphones were around. They work by direct commands.

Siri is not voice control software (only), it is Artificial Intelligence, possibly the first time AI has been integrated into a phone the way Apple has done it, and is quite groundbreaking. So, Siri can 'understand' your questions, even if indirect, like "Do I need a raincoat today?" which other voice apps cannot do.

This video shows how Siri can prepare a text, pause, check the calendar, then send out the text without direct commands:
