lol, 09 Dec 2011just beofre anyone goes out to buy this phone. you might wa... moreIt depends largely on how the video is encoded. If the DSP side of the processor can't be used in decoding a video, you're more likely to encounter playback problems. I guess that can be called a downside of open phones.

In these youtube videos you mentioned the video is likely optimized for the other phones. Since "the test" can be machinated quite easily in other ways as well, I wouldn't trust it anyhow.

Which is worth mentioning, is that the N9's software when it was released didn't support that many video profiles. With updates, either the one that's already out or the next one, the amount of supported profiles is said to extend.

On a side note, it's rather questionable how important the playback of 720p videos is, since using phone as one's mediaplayer isn't all that popular. Those that know how, usually know of better.

I really love this White N9, been tested some N9 on Nokia Store, but the achilles heel of this phone actually is not the HD Video as you can convert it using different MPEG4 profile, but the whatsapp application support is the main problem for me (some people out there of course can use different messaging but I connect with all of my business partner using this application). So I better use Nokia 701 temporary waiting until it has whatsapp support, or if not, maybe I'll bought N801 (the N8 successor) instead this phone.

lol, 09 Dec 2011the first quote i gave for you guys to watch on youtube jus... moreno need to watch ... :)
N9 sucks big time when comes to playing mp4 HD movies, but I suppose that's because the player isn't optimized for that (the hardware, at least theoretical, is suppose to handle very well that kind of media).
Perhaps this problem will be gone in a future update release.
On the other hand, you don't buy a phone for watching HD movies ...

just beofre anyone goes out to buy this phone. you might want to check youtube to see how it handles playing 720p videos.
Both on it's screen and also with tv-out, just search on youtube for "n8 vs n9 hd video" or " Nokia N9 vs E7 in playing a 1280x720 mp4 file ".

I'm sure you'll have a big surprise. I wouldn't trow away a fortune that they are asking and make a fool of myself in front of my friends. Just go watch those videos on youtube. Really really interesting.

I like this phone... Just bcoz of the unibody engineering and MeeGo.. Else, i don't think it is worth a buy.. I'd go with SGS2 rather than this.
