Of course it can!
I'm typing on a Galaxy A5 (2017) which may have been somewhat overpriced when I got it but it's been totally worth it because of the amount of times the IP68 waterproofing saved the phone! I still consider the price I got it at affordable (€319, 30 euros cheaper than the new A50)
Last year there was also the A8(+) as well

Seemingly, Samsung want to make a clearer differentiation between his budget phones (previously J series, now M series) and mid-tier phones (A-series) by changing the name of budget phone series. IMO, this change is unnecessary and not that important to most of us.

It's really a great thing that Samsung cancels the J series.
The last J devices were so closed the A than there is only small differences between both.
And also that will permit to have devices which I hope will conciliate performances and budget.
Looking forward to see if Samsung will be able again to shake the market positively and let the other competitors provide great answers.

Yep... Called this the 1st time these came out and I've used a couple of Samsungs since Galaxy S II to Nexus long enough to know better. From then onwards they've begun their "clog the price points" tactic. Which was hilarious because by then the Chinese and Taiwanese OEMs had came out with way way better competition, prices albeit with still crap software+UI of course.
Even the A series right now are being positioned a tad too over confident against category competition at prices.
