bold move, 15 Jan 2012Im not sure if this will be a good move or not, but it has ... moreIt's a good move..depending on how determined Samsung is. That and actually Tizen (formerly known as MeeGo) enjoys a slightly better dev enthusiasm than Bada. Above all Samsung MUST strive to keep it as totally open as possible.

This is a good hedge plan against its WP7 and Android initiatives.

If actual models are upgradable to this Tizen+Bada could be a hit( and ofcourse with an refined interface not as an TouchWizz still uglier brother)

von, 15 Jan 2012I hope they make it available to other mobile companies so ... moreThis is sounding better and better. Oh to answer your question, yes, Tizen will be outsourced to other Manufacturers so you have a good shot at Sony getting their version out there. I personally am waiting for Intel's version but MWC 2012 will confirm all of this. Here's hoping for the best MWC of them all

Im not sure if this will be a good move or not, but it has the possibility to be a very good move. Theese days everything is smartphone, smartphone, smartphone... but something is needed to fill the hole left by Symbian IF Nokia desides to discontinue it.

Many people don't need a smartphone or wont pay alot of money for it.

Alot of theese end up buying low end Android phones with poor specs not really able to do all the things the flagship phones can.

sam, 15 Jan 2012super dead move! Why do phone firms keep on being stupid? W... moreWell, Bada has hardly made a name for itself. Tizen is rising from Meego's ashes, that gives it a (small) thrust for a new beginning. Backwards compatibility is a massive plus.

It's in a way same for Symbian, with the exception that Symbian is nearly a curse word. Since Symbian's development was outsourced it has become a serious contender, but is still dragged down by it's name. Obvious attempt to shake that off, is to rename it.

Albeit, the reason for name change is different, in both cases there has happened a massive change in the OS itself.

it is pretty foolishness BADA is now growing with its own specs. sammy please dont kill bada and tizen looking very bad in nature. please dont disappoint WAVERS because that much we loves bada and waiting for bada 3 and a wave 4 this year.

Relax............ samsung is just one of many OEM that will utilize Tizen in the coming months. Despite the poor design of samsung it is good to see how Tizen will be compare with Andriod, iOS and windows phone...

thats what nokia should have done - merge symbian and meego!
Does anyone know how the tizen devices will look like - will the phone have keys and will the UI look like that in the nokia n9??

super dead move! Why do phone firms keep on being stupid? Why not improve on the product with same name? Only then will customers advertise you! Not just the stupid same line of thought: 'let's change name & deceive our customers', the stupid market strategy! Eg: nokia symbian belle is now nokia belle; an improper thought of deception. Be proud of it, even if it is a shit product, however, keep on working on it for improvement! Stop changing its name, unless you have sold it! Let us name!

If both are the full fledged operating systems already (atleast bada is) , not sure exactly what parts are to be merged here. As it goes for the merge thingy, Samsung certainly are confusing things up here... both for themselves and the customers !

As a professional mobile game developer, I had high hopes for the Wave 8500 (first Bada phone) but actual performance of that device was not nearly as good as it should have been!
