I think in a few years time, Intel will have quite a reasonable chunk of the market regarding CPUs. If you look at it, phones are becoming more like computers these days...

i wonder how intel has conquered the heating issue their cpus have...I was lent by intel an atom motherboard for a social project and the cpu needed not just a heat sink but a fan too...

I'm sorry to give you this disappointing comment, but then, why are all of you so happy?
This isn't anything great. Had they released a device with this processor at the MWC 2012, this would have been mind blowing. But by 2013, this is nothing special. Have you kept a close eye at the news?
Samsung Exynos 5450 with Mali T658 is a quad core Cortex-A15 that has 10 times the graphics processing power of the current gen Mali 400 in the Galaxy S II. Moreover Cortex-A15 is very power efficient.
Snapdragon S4 Pro with Adreno 320 can provide console level gaming (Read: PS3 and XBOX360 quality) by Q2 this year. Again the Krait architecture is similar to Cortex-A15. Moreover, by 2013, we'll probably have PoverVR Series 6 GPU powered processors that can blow this out of the water.
Intel does have the advantage of providing latest fabrication process. They are the only people who could shrink a transistor to less than 22nm using their Tri-gate transistor (3D transistor) technology.

If they don't bring their advantages to the game, they'll probably lose terribly.

cjdelphi, 28 Feb 2012Not sure why you're placing importance on HyperThreading, i... moreMy point is, HT has its importance. In comparison to having 4 cores it would be better to have 2 with HT. as the platform is for smartphones, HT would be sufficient to handle the current load at a CHEAPER price than 4 cores. it will be wise to use 2 cores with HT + plus a power full GPU for the current smartphone o/s capabilities. I may be wrong but just a thought.

Some how I don't agree with that, 2013 is too far away from now , & why would Intel produce such a processor in late 2013 while its available in early days of 2012
I think Intel knows better than that.

Intel are the sneaky underdog in the mobile race... They're just hiding away in the corner, I love it, Intel will soon make ARM worry :) - more power efficient, more powerful...

however, why? why such a low profile? makes me nervous a little because if Intel are now at last going to rival ARM, what's the likes of AMD going to do next?

AnonD-5950, 28 Feb 2012hopefully to see this in iPhone, Samsung Galaxy lineup and ... moreso far Intel cpu have killer performance and huge hunger for power. Combine that with inefficient Android and you'll get 2500 mAh batteries to last 8 hours on stand-by. And possibly 8 minutes under full load.
