Samsung to use MediaTek 5G chipsets for its low-end smartphones

09 December 2019
That's just another company to MediaTek's list of smartphone vendors such as Oppo, vivo, Xiaomi and Huawei.

Yes, i think year 2020 will be 5G devices for masses. But in many countries 4G speeds r not upto mark.

Mediatek gets a bad rap cause a lot of low end phones use them but they're not actually bad chips for the price.

Anonymous, 09 Dec 2019MediaTek > ExynosExynos processors are damn good, I rarely see people preferring MT to Exynos, Samsung fans or not.

I thought Samsung should use these chips too, as long as their performance and power efficiency is decent, and more importantly, if they are within an envisaged budget for Samsung.

Samsung can use the saved time and money for planning the future of exynis and its SoC division, now that they have fixed the hole of the Mongoose Core Divison.

The costs of producing things outside of China is much higher, so that should always be used as an advantage, as long as no nature of IP and product information is given away to China, due their new laws of handing over technical information.

IF Samsung would fully commit on MTK support then this is OK but IF they're using Mediatek to give them time to develop their Exynos' 5G then, this would be a huge problem in the future. At the release of their future 5G Exynos (if there exist in development), I'm sure that these 5G MTK support will also end, maybe... prematurely.

As much as I would like to support Mediatek, they still need to prove their products are great in the long run. As for now, I try to avoid them when I can.

oPaGanDasTyle, 09 Dec 2019oh well, it will be this time sammy will go down in sales! ... moreA10 is best selling lowend and it use exynos not snapdragon, people care for good perfomance, even though i dont like mediatek, but you cant deny they did well recently especially G90T in redmi note 8 pro.

if samsung put cortex A75/76/77 in their lowend even if its from mediatek wouldnt you recomend it?

Well the low end chips of Mediatek will be like Helio P22 and worse.
So Mediatek improved a lot but they high end chips which samsung wont use.
Just the low end which are the worst among all the competition.

Samsung is doing what Huawei also used to do, flagships and mid range would use in-house Kirin and lower end would use smaller Qualcomm and Mediatek chips.

But I think if it happens, and it's still a big if, it'll still be first done on a trial run basis, one or two devices, in a40, a50 tier like, with options in exynos chipsets also available with little variance in price.
