it's nokia's way of re-cementing their niche on the lower echelons of the market. They have dominated lowe-end phones before and they want to make sure they still have the crown.

I think it's a wise decision, you cannot deny that THERE ARE people who cannot afford smartphones, and who are we to judge those who buy a phone just so they can make phone calls and send text messages?

                OMG! How popular Nokia is?
Even a simple Nokia 103 beats Galaxy S3 in comments section.
                Strange, but true.

Pretty darn sure this phone will be a runaway hit...

...not only in "developing markets" (which is code for "poor countries") but also in other places.

In many ways this is the perfect phone in a lot of situations:
                  - As a second or third phone for urgent reasons
                  - A temporary phone for travellers
                  - As a support-line phone for technicians etc.
                  - A first phone for children
                  - Older or technology-challenged people

                  Well played move by Nokia!

But just like every other company there is still NO 3.2 / 5mp camera phone with flash that slides and does not have a touch screen, even trying to get hold of old models is now so difficult. I know there are people out there that adore their touch screens phones, well i've been there done that totally bored of it and find a touch screen is of no use at all. To those who like their touch screen please enjoy it, to the manufacturers there are some of us who beg you to make SOME phones the good old fashioned way.

For every technological step forwards we seem to take two backwards

I think Elop is a chinese. He smelled what markets need, not what the producers want to make.

I'm envious that it has a flashlight. Ultra handy. My S40 Nokia doesn't have that.

I think this will be a phone I'll buy to keep in the draw as a spare.
