According to Nokia, the reason for this is that the user experience was below par.

Nobody see the bigger picture?! MS is mirroring their fail to NOKIA. They use NOKIA as a shield to take all negatives for the failure of WP7. NOKIA shares are going down while MS is trying to fix their fail. Samsung, HTC and others are obliged to produce WP because of patent issues with their Androids. To my knowledge not a single company succeeded while in alliance with MS. That is something NOKIA share holders have to think about. Customers have already voted with their money...

Guys, it's not that Lumia 610 is incapable of running Skype. Nokia needs to create a distinction between Lumia 710 and 610 to justify the price of the 710. Get it?

Skype works on my optimus one with 600 mhz proccy very well!

Seriously, shame on nokia and double shame on microsoft. First they allowed people to download and use it and then pulled it back! didnt they try it before allowing it to be downloaded by users!

So the "WP is really efficient, it doesn't need that much hardware 'kuz it's not as power hungry as Android" discourse was plain cr@p. Having the marketplace shut down for non WP 7.5 users and the support dropped for launched apps is NOT the way to go Nokiasoft. If you really want to get into this business you need to show you actually care about customers, Like Nokia has done in the past and MS has hardly ever done. Skype is not a luxury app nowadays. Stop making policy against your customers or you'll lose them all. MS is a bad influence for Nokia, we all knew it from the very beginning.

Just MS fail, really cant blame anyone else or say its the ram of the phone or anything. My brother owns a old samsung android phone that has 192mb ram and it runs Skype just fine http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i5700_galaxy_spica-2965.php

If that horrid old phone runs it this phone should have no issues, more os the MS actual own skype they could easily optimism it for their own hardware as all the different phones have the same SoC but with just different speeds from my understanding.

google makes every android support regardless of specs work with this Gtalk services, can even tango or skype on those without a front camera! with windows actually owning skype, it is their product and it cant work across all their devices. I'll be very surprised if windows is up there challenging in the long run, apart from fabricated articles. Had high hopes for windows mobile even gave it a try, but just makes no sense what they are doing.

Even Skype runs better on iOS and Android then it does on windows phone e.g cant work in the background..WHAT!? come on microsoft! no one wonder it hasnt taken off like they had hoped, and dragging Nokia's good name down with them

WP is basicaly dumbphone firmware - it's logical it's fast with strong HW, but the battery life is horrible even compared with Android. But Android is smartphone and WP is dumbphone. :D

Nokia should market this phone as a basic phone, and sell it at less than USD$99 so that people will be introduced to the features of WP 7.5

Can't help thinking this partnership is just a stage toward another Microsoft acquisition. With Google purchasing Motorola Mobility, and challenging Apple, Microsoft is likely seeking its own PC- cloud- mobile universe.

Samsung also had every popular OS on the market (except iOS and BB of course) including Win Mobile and now WP, but see which OS catapulted them to the top. Nokia could have done so much better with android than Samsung.

65k display, no skype, no games(even NFS shift), restrictions from tango and from Mango, no BT, USB connection to PC, overpriced.
