What a waste. Concentrate and perfect what you know - the physical QWERTY. Be the HERTZ or Sprint of mobile phones by concentrating on corporate accounts.

They better launch it soon, or it will be too late, considering WP8 and next iphone are coming.

RIM is mainly successful in the technology of encryption and in their Keyboard technology. Their only problem is related to lack of APPS which can be solved if they will have their OS based on Android and keep their interface layer on the top. For the touch devices, they can’t be the best, so their only way will be to partner with one of the best and put their technology on the top of some of these touch phones.
If they will invest in making touch phones, they will destroy any hope of their survival, and they will be down the drain.
It is bad if they disappear because they have a great technology that I respect, and which makes it possible for me to see the emails while travelling without having to pay lots of money. And, their keyboard is the thing that nobody could achieve and is hard for anybody to follow.

I had a BB Torch 9860...full touch screen..didn't miss the keyboard to be honest. It will be weird if they do away with the BB key/home button though..hope it works out for them.

qwerty keypad is b.b #2 trade mark (excluding bbm) so dey should still keep d qwerty design

I also agree with the writter who said that (RIM)Blackberry would better be bought by Microsoft, Apple or Google to benefit from a good ecosystem of a desktop OS as a basis for apps & porting. I personally am not a fan of texting so I view Blackberry as obsolete. Touchscreen is de future.

Anonymous, 22 Jun 2012i am using sgs3 and bb tourch. i am only using bb for its k... morebut why??????? typing on a screen is sooooooo much better and softer, and not to mention, way FASTER, Ill never go back to blackberry(useless browsing) or a keyboard..... (Go green, Go touch screen)

oh man really i dnt want blackberry to be out of the competition instead would be better if BB10 serves well. coz we the consumers will get maximum benefit with different options to move around. BTW BB10 is equipped with all latest stats and looks the OS is promising as well. hope for the best not for the bash.... :o

BlackBerry already showed an amazing virtual keypad at their BlackBerry world event several weeks back. There are videos of it online, and it looks amazing. For customers who appreciate the BlackBerry but prefer a full touch device, this will be perfect. Will Windows8 really be so great? Judging by 6.5, 7.0 and 7.5 not many people wanted it...same outcome is possible. For BlackBerry, this is the first major shift in 10 years and much bigger news

But I agree a smartphone should be a mult functional device, and ready to do what ever a user need it for.
Also have RIM the capability to manufacture tens of millions devices, if 5% of IOS and 5% of Android (and one or two WP) users should switch to Blackberry?

True.
WP8 itself is finding itself in a tight spot (Mango users are less than thrilled at WP7.8 hand downs), and RIM is almost a nobody in this race.
The game has changed.
Back in 2005 when BB's were still in the game, it was about features - you know, this camera vs. that one, good music player vs. good organizer app and so on.
When iOS and Android got in, it was about apps. RIM (and MS) didn't really care at that point, and paid heavily in terms of market share.
Now, the game's changed again - now its all about the ECOSYSTEM.
iOS is fairly established here, and Google's no stranger to integration either.
And WP8 is also on the right track with the phone+tablet+PC unification.
RIM, unfortunately, still has a looong way to go.

Well blackberry's recent ventures do show that rim is taking its customers seriously, which is a good thing. Though as they claim their recent flagship device as a tough competitor to ios and android devices, i have little faith the rim can reach to such level... no hard feelings but bb still has a long way to go...

Blackberry has this motto "Phone for Business". Obviously the motto cannot be used in the current IT era. Their motto should be Phone for Business and Pleasure". The are less people in business compared to people who are not having businesses. In other words, they are only concentrating on business people which is extremely less. Their qwerty keyboard phone are beginning to get smaller which is not fun to use.

In Jamaiaca 90% of the people use BB even those with Iphones still have a BB and thats 90% of 2.7 million so I dont think RIM is going anywhere, but this is a step in the rightdirection the next step would be to lower the price point of their devices, all their devices are markedly higher than better equipped devices from samsung and HTC
