Samsung claims that yields from its 5 nm foundries are improving

18 March 2022
Those foundries are making chips like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, but are seeing low yield rates.

        Makes me trust you 78%.

This is very funny, QC leads in cooling, their last devices have been 2 stoves, and no, I don't see it possible that they have a project, they would kill their own flagship, if something happens it will do it in the new generation and Cortex X3 doesn't seem much better than x2

Samsung says that its foundry yields are improving, which translates to "yields are not improving", since Samsung is an admitted liar.

Tangentially, given Samsung is technologically ahead of Intel, and given Samsung has admitted to falsifying yields on their 4nm process (which very likely means they have lied about all their latest nodes), Intel probably won’t catch Samsung for a few years, and will likely never catch TSMC, despite the yarn Pat Gelsinger so loosely spins.

              35.01%, OMG that's awesome

Arm is laying of 15% of employees and that's the start only.

SD is still the king, despite how closer the MT chips are getting to its title.
It would be unlikely that QC doesn't have a hidden project to flip the table back but they do still lead in cooling and image processing. MT only gives better performance in gaming and so slightly.

The Samsung 5 nm FinFet had yields little under 50% a year ago by all report's and I am sure they improved it in the meantime. QC would be crazy to switch now as Samsung is 1.5~2 years ahead everyone else when it comes to GaA and it will start with Samsung 3 nm GaA. FinFet reached it's real peak potential with 14~16 nm nodes and have very little benefits afterwards. And besides no one wants to switch anything this day's keeping in mind supply shortages and outbreaks.

Jesus christ, everyone pretending they know anything about litography of chips and how it makes a difference. Everyone obsessing over smaller numbers (I thought you guys were all obsessed with big numbers) and thinking making something with smaller node just magically makes it better. Newsflash, it doesn't. If chip is designed in a certain way, using TSMC or Samsung's fabs, makes no difference. There might be minor advantage, but not something that would entirely change the characteristics of a chip.
