I have used and loved Symbian OS, until they ruined it in Belle. Till Anna I was in love with Symbian. Now I have moved to Samsung Android, better than Belle - the wanna-be Android. I feel sorry for the Symbian lovers, my deep sympathy for them (including me). Nokia has some moledroid (mole who is working for Android) inside and (s)he/they are making Nokia go down with Windows OS. But who the hell am I to say anything? Anyway, today I mourn for Symbian, my beloved companion for the last 7 years (till 6600). Rest In Peace, my friend. For me, I'll still keep N8-ing until N8 dies, that will be my last Symbian, not PV808.

This is so unfair for Symbian. I don't want to see Symbian just in a form of history in the coming years! :(

I'm pretty sure that all the SMARTphone users(I mean the REAL smartphone users like me) knows that ALL THAT SYMBIAN LACKS is NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS.
Symbian is a very good competitor.

You know what guys, I own a Cyan Nokia Lumia 800. I love it but not totally. You may ask why.

    Here:
    - 16GB isn't enough
    - It can't match the versatility of Symbian in every way.
    - Battery life
    - Low and not so clear speaker sound. My C5-06 is better. :(
    - The camera UI is sooooo simple.

What I like about thw WP OS:
    - Messaging. It really impressed me.!
    - Modern UI and the Live Tiles. It's so unique.!
    - SNS integration all throughout the OS. THIS IS UNMATCHED by any other OS. PERIOD. (I've used iOS and Android that's why I can fairly compare it)
    - Their very own Facebook and Twitter app. It blends with the Modern UI. ^____^
    - People Hub and Me Tile is so FUNCTIONAL.

Other than that, none. Everything else can be found in the Symbian OS. Symbian can do a lot of things that Windows Phone can't, and that's a FACT. :(
But we must all remember that WP is not an open source OS that's why. But they can do it, right? Can't they? Duh.

I don't know why but I can say my Nokia C5-06 is better than my Nokia Lumia 800 in some ways, speaking of what a REAL Smartphone OS should be.

Don't get me wrong, I so love my Lumia 800 and Windows Phone. It is classy but I guess the Classic Symbian OS is simply better than it. Symbian is made to fit for the word "Smartphone". I love how Symbian handles everything under the hood.

If I'm not mistaken, Symbian will be supported until 2016 right?
I wanted to see Jolla create a Symbian Smartphone after Nokia ditched it. But there are two things:

    First:
Symbian is still under Nokia until 2016. They can produce but.....(read Second:)

    Second:
Sailfish OS is also an open source OS so if Jolla will also adapt Symbian, it's kind of redundant, eh? They'll kill each other and Sailfish may not emerge successful bec. of that and Jolla wouldn't want that to happen of course.

So long my friend Symbian. I didn't expect to see you like this bec. I believe Symbian's downfall is also Nokia's downfall simply bec. Nokia is Nokia bec. of Symbian. :'(

Windows Phone just holds a 3rd place in my geeky heart and mind. 1st is Symbian and second is MeeGo.!

Good-luck Nokia. As a tribute for the GREAT SYMBIAN, I'll buy a Nokia 808 PureView this year. I love you Symbian.! :')

Speaking of Elop, I SO HATE YOU.! :-X

Symbian will always be one of the best OSs out there... I'm using a Droid now...But I'll use a Symbian device anytime, anywhere... I've used a lot of Symbian devices since 2003... I started with a 7650, 6630,, N90, N73, N95, N95 8gb, N96 and lastly the awesome N8... IMO, Symbian still rocks! :-)

Regedit, 25 Jan 2013Few good points i must agree. However, i strongly feel tha... moreProfits are always split. Into owners pockets and into development. And Nokia paid allot for development, unlike others.

Nokia does not need a trend. Nokia is a legend not a "Let's make money and run" crap OEM.

Nokia had internet tablet's running Maemo way before iphone or itab, icrap, samsteal were born;). Take a better look: N810 WiMAX Edition, N800, 770, N810.

Nokia had all it's factories in Europe, while others were pushing 5 euros made in china devices at 300% higher prices, 300% is low. Get the picture? While others were making money from crapp Nokia paid money for development and for their workers.

Since when is s40 doomed?:)). It's selling like hot cakes girl.

Now, you name that s60 from whatever Oem better then Nokia. And i refer to the same year and same period of release, not after 2 years. Like n70 is better then 3650... I wander why:-?. Cause if not. I can easily say that 808 can take a dump on it;).

Today you have learned something. You are a 2 seconds smarter girl/boy/kid. Whateva'

AnonD-16429, 25 Jan 2013Symbian cannot be ported to any android device due to techn... moreYou know, first you should learn before talking nonsense. Symbian supports dual core cpu's and i'm pretty shore can run 1gb Ram to;). Go and learn some, Then come here and act like a geeky guy;)

here are some lessons. That show it is, as always was. better then android;)! And this was in 2011.

                http://library.developer.nokia.com/index.jsp?topic=/GUID-E35887BB-7E58-438C-AA27-97B2CDE7E069/GUID-6F1ED7D0-5F41-4587-89AA-8DDE7AEC916F.html

Symbian could go further easy, but since the release of the N8, Nokia planed to ditch it, this i am pretty shore. Cause Symbian is just harder to develop then others, and Nokia started to lose market. The bad call of Nokia was that they bought Symbian, in a time of crises. They started to lag behind, of course! They had all their factory's in Europe. Do you know how much money Nokia invested only in workers? While others were coming with cheep made in China devices, Nokia found it's self in a very bad position. Could not lower the price of their devices, and could not do a 10 seconds relocation of the factories To produce them cheaper. Financing 2 platforms while paying allot of money to workers everywhere in Europe it is not quite great for a company that lost ground. So they did what they had to do, to survive in a war. And the transaction was very, very hard for them and for their workers. our people. To quickly install China factories and start the production of their mobiles, cheaper then ever was for Nokia in a time when Samsung already had 5 euros production costs for a phone also was not quite easy. Quite at all. Symbian is a very good platform. But Nokia killed it to save them selves. And they started to do that since the n8. Now, for you to understand. Symbian is way better then android. just that the mass is to du*b to know that, cause, most of them never used it;).

No matter that Symbian is dead or not. I'm using Symbian S60 for five years. During those years, my passion for classic Symbian has become greater and greater. Now I'm owning (and I'm proud and fully satisfied to use every day ONLY classic Symbian S60 phones, without touchscreen) few phones: Nokia N70, Nokia N90, Nokia N93, Nokia N86 8MP, Samsung I8510 Innov8. Just these days I'm going to buy Nokia 6680 and Nokia 7650.

For me, the death of Symbian doesn't mean only the death of a mobile OS... It's the death of the Finnish (and Scandinavian, maybe European as well) spirit in the mobile phone industry. Now mobile phones are americanized, iPhonized :( . The contemporary mobile phone should be fashionable rather than functional, should be changed in few months rather than built for many years.

Symbian, you're the best mobile OS. For me, you'll live forever.

Lets consider even if someone ports symbian to S2, its performance wont increase. reason- symbian is incapable to utilize the h/w. It simply cant understand the amount of RAM beyond certain limit. its like an old pc which cant use high amount of ram although you have it in the box.

Anonymous, 25 Jan 2013If there was a symbian running on 1ghz dual cores, 1gb ram,... moresymbian was not provided with even a single phone that had such specs. it was always with low specs and gpu and cpu of older generation. but still it is the most stable and smooth os out there because it has excellent resource managing skill.. ..if symbian bell will be ported to sgs2 ,sgs3 or note 2. then i bet that its performance will increase by a very huge margin..so can symbian be ported to .any android device.?

IF someone would make a sort of Symbian-like UI/launcher on top of another OS (Android, Linux, etc.) which would be very familiar to the HUGE universe of Symbian users and ex-users, yet be an improved version to compete with current platforms, IMHO that would be a formula for success. Not just a skin, but a real functional Symbian-like experience. Kinda' what Symbian would have evolved into had the developers kept their focus on it. It should be something any Symbian user would easily adapt to and have the same features on top of a more powerful OS. I think whoever does could STEAL the market left by Nokia when they switched to Windows. A Windows Nokia is a totally different phone with the "Nokia" brand tacked on to it. It has not proven anything market-wise (even though it is promising). How I wish the Symbian developers would come together to come up with something like this. See! UI/launchers abound! It shouldn't be too difficult. If Nokia doesn't want it, maybe Blackberry, Motorola, or some Chinese company can test the waters. There's just a HUGE HUGE universe of Nokia users and ex-users - both of the smartphones and feature phones who wouldn't think twice if someone offered them a very familiar interface. If the brand alone can maintain fanboys, how much more will the familiar useability!? And I wish it could be called Symbian... in memory of the former mighty OS!

All the more successful and powerful if Nokia themselves will make it!
