Ice Universe: Oppo is working on its own smartphone chipset

We heard a similar rumor a year ago, back then it was claimed that Oppo is targeting TSMC's 3nm node (which ended up being delayed slightly).

But at consumer point of view you are right, they wont be able to compete with Qualcomm with Arm designs.

    Another Cortex core and Mali GPU so expect Mediatek/Unisoc level of perfomance and Optimization, nothing new here for us Consumers.

    It would be nice if someone licence Nvidia/Amd IP with actual drivers not Semi effort like Samsung.

        remember when some Xiaomi redmi testing some unknown jlc cpu?

          so OPPO named their SoC as MariSilicon Z?

              Good news, Hopefully they doing well ...cuz i really miss Kirin From Huawei (even tough i'm still using Kirin 970) chinese Chipset never been disappionted.

                It is not worth from financial point of view.

                - Apple has own chips because Apple is one of the richest corporations on Earth.
                - Samsung is much larger than BBK, still many phones do not use exynos.
                - Huawei used to make much more money than Oppo can dream of by selling phones.

                Mediatek, Samsung and Huawei with years of experience were not on pair with Qualcomm. Oppo is just gonna burn huge cash for nothing. It is not like Apple that has money enough to higher people from Samsung, Qualcomm, Intel etc ..
