They also made great midrangers that can handle 3-4 years so decliner was expected.

Honestly I haven't found a true reason to upgrade phones from 2017-2018 models as long as they work fine, unless there's no other choice.
No wonder why lack of innovation, price hikes, homogeniety, inflation etc that contribute to poor smartphone sales

The main reason is the recesion that is about to happen, second reason is life getting more expensive, and third one, expensiver mid-range and high-end phones, that makes no sense for the feature pack they bring to the table.

Back 6 years ago you could have a high end with all the latest features of the time for 500-600$, now the same woops you above 1k.

I can buy any flagship-grade phone I fancy, but I went for an LG V50 because it still has offline FM Radio functionality. And yes, I still frequently listen to FM Radio to this day.

To this day, I still applaud Sony for putting the headphone jack back on their flagship phone in 2020 after removing it for two years. Sony could have just continued doing so and asked everyone to buy their wireless earbuds, but they didn't.

google scans through your google drive files and deletes them as they please. So, think twice before advocating against micro sd card in a phone. Also, headphone jack should be there for environmental causes. Lithium batttery filled BT headphones, that die within a year or two, is one of the worst trend that Apple created recently. Worse sound quality+bad User experience+ charging n wasting energy + environmentally hazardous + expensive = Bluetooth headphones

A 3.5mm jack doesn't cost thousands of dollars, and even cheap cabled IEMs still sound a lot better than the compressed SBC/AAC garbage over BT, if you equalize them to the same level in terms of bass and treble extension. Why not be able to use both, depending on use case.

Also, failing genuine microSDs are a rare exception, it's often the cheap chinese clones/counterfeit ones that fail.
Imagine paying $500 more for a phone just to have more space for media files and the 4/8k camcorder, when you could just add a genuine microSD 1TB for $150 or 512GB for $60. While still making backups as you would have to do with just more internal memory aswell. Also, think about how much 1TB of cloud storage costs you in 10 years, $800 at least, while you can just get a new microSD for way cheaper after let's say 5 years when you need more storage. While you still are the owner of your files, not some server room far away.

Given the partially absurd price hikes (APPLE, Europe, but some chinese manufacturers as well), the overall creeping up of prices for the mid tier phone segment, the stagnation in innovation (or even worse: incrementalism getting the new normal), and the redicious artifical cutback of some essential features (charger, microSD card, telephoto lens, software support): what can seriously be expected?
