Why bother buying new phones when 2020 and even 2019 flagship phones are still a capable powerhouse in 2023? I can still get smooth gaming in Ultra setting despite only having Snapdragon 855 or 855+.

only tech reviewers, enthusiasts and loyalists buy a new one year-after-year and they only account for a very small portion of the market share that's why it's no surprise seeing a decline in sales as most buyers are contented with their devices - unless you're a tech reviewer, enthusiast or loyalist... which as always...find ways to make "reasonable" means for small hardware and software upgrades

Many vamos points made here in the comments, but in the end, the main reason people stop buying new phones is that the ones they're using are pretty great.

                      - the loss of the 3.5mm port is sad, but parts have gotten crazy expensive. You need to spend THOUSANDS to get truly good, audiophile grade quality (think Fiio M15 and M17, Sennheiser HD600). There's a reason LG smartphone died DESPITE having the "quad DAC".
                      - MicroSDs are crazy unreliable. There are way too many people posting on Reddit mourning their microSDs that suddenly became READ-ONLY, a sign that they're no longer functional, after mere months of use. And those people bought genuine SanDisks and Samsung EVOs at their Best Buy! Imagine losing ALL your photos, videos, and memories to s_____ flash memory like what all microSDs are using!
                      - Cash is King still. Why'd you think paying by phone has failed to take off in everywhere but the USA and Japan? That's the only use of NFC nowadays, and even then our phones still were unable to replace our plastic credit cards which they were supposed to do.
                      - Only old people and cab drivers listen to traditional AM/FM radio these days. Spotify and Qobuz are where it's at nowadays.

of coz it will drop due manufacturers continuously increasing pricescoz they know they can't sell as much as before so price increases will ensure they earn back from less sale
