I could always use a few thousand extra to spend for party, pretty girls and beer, but if i spend 5 thousand less for that one month makes no real difference.

Of course we have the same here, but to a lesser extent, its growing fast though, millions already have free iphone/sgs3/Note2 on 2 year contracts.

Lots of americans prefer to pay debt over having cash, they can still buy what they want with creditcards, as long as Bernanke keep the press going and sell the bonds to China.

Set the price at 500 dollars and it will sell like hotcakes and will get HTC back at the map again. Seriously, noboby will buy it for 790 dollars. It's not even the top smartphone right now.

Agreed that HTC one has the dubious distinction of being priced anywhere near the iPhone. But HTC has a name amongst those whom it targets. That is the upper middle and upper class. For those who wanna be a part of the crowd and get attracted to gimmicks, Samsung does its job well.
Moreover for the low end and mid end smartphones we have micromax and karbonn and other brands which make u think as galaxy owner by the looks of it :P

Kumar, 09 Apr 2013***Indians can affoard anything this planet can offer*** ... moreI agree with u that most of the indians cant afford this price tag infact this cell ph costs more than momthly salary of most indians and annual income of bpl people but they are not the target consumer for htc one. Target consumers are those top 5-10% of creamy layer of india and thanks to huge population it makes a lot of them even if htc one is able to woo even 10% of those target consumers thats close to around 8-10 million phones.....
This is the strategy every smartphone manufacturer have in mind when launching phones in india....
