taghack, 01 Nov 2023Yes, there is practically no screen door effect.I can second that. The resolution is great enough to completely counter that. At least I can't notice any.

Again, it's a mainstream VR (well, I guess VR/AR really) headset meant mostly for games. You're asking for IR and thermal sensors, even wanting to drive a car with it. You're asking for devices that would cost...uhm...at least 30 grand. And even if it worked perfectly for a purpose like that, you'd be screwed anyway of the police caught you with that on.

Ravenowl, 30 Oct 2023This is a maintstream VR headset, not a military device. lolRugged phones are also not, but they offer this. I do not expect military grade performance, just at the lvl of user who would buy these.
I also miss those feaures on flagship phones, but battle for specs seems more important to them than bringing new stuff.

Anonymous, 30 Oct 2023Spoiler alert, IPS is LCD. Old school IPS is also quite bad... moreIt's not really an issue with modern IPS. 99% of the difference lies with the black levels. If you don't think about it that much, it's still fine for dark games, but you will have "gray" blacks, rather than just...black.
OLED does have a relative edge in response times (good OLED screens anyway). But you'll be hard pressed to notice the difference outside of extremely competitive and high tier gaming scenarios. Still love my QD-OLED on my desktop, though. The VR headset space is still an oddball. Unless you're ready to shell out 3 times the price, you're not gonna get a headset (for PCVR applications) that'll give you all you need. E.g. the Bigscreen Beyond. Micro-OLED and all...besides the massive price tag, it does actually have a LOWER FoV than the Quest 3, which is a dealbreaker for me. Even more so if it would cost me 3 times as much.

Good enough, but hardware is half the battle - softwear is lacking, game titles are scarce and annoyingly low-end and/or repetitive. Non-gaming apps all have the same "why would I ever use this" identity crisis still going, and avatar chat is still cringe AF.

It's kind of funny to see Apple enter this space, predictably they will hit the same issues no matter how good the hardware is - past the novelty of the premium Apple product, can this actually work?

$500 is too much for one of these things. Wish these companies would make more PC powered ones.

You're always watching the display straight on, so the perk for IPS, viewing angles, is irrelevant. Refresh rate and minimal ghosting is more desirable.

I know the resolution is kinda bigger but isn't that just a downgrade from OLED and IPS to LCD screens?

Now the zombies will be able to escape the real world.
