The Kirin 9000s loses to its nearly 3-year older predecessor in benchmarks

20 December 2023
The new chip is inferior to its predecessor from a technical standpoint.

Ouifuf, 20 Dec 2023For 99% of people the difference between all these chips do... moreYeah, but the price has to be justifiable. Take a look at the Mate 60 RS Ultimate. It's priced highly but has Snapdragon 888+ performance. LMAO

Why should i buy ... moreNo mate we all have to pool together what we have and subsisize Huawei, more than it is by the Chinese government. When they post record profits we will all receive one thank you post on Weibo, and the right to brag about Huawei on forums, totally worth it!

          Loses? Weak article.

Well the predecessor was on tsmc 5nm and the successor on smic 7nm.

If sd8g4 comes out on 6nm vs 4nm predecessor, does it "lose"?

On the contrary it's pretty insane that smic7nm can match tsmc5nm. Impressive. An author can put any spin on a subject. It's up to them. A reporter shouldn't.

The difference in GPU is only 1000 in Wild Life! I'd not call that "much" slower.

Anyway, still impressive for a single country to make this chipset by itself.

Bear in mind that not even the U.S can make chipsets solely without help from other countries like Netherlands (ASML) and Taiwan (TSMC), not to mention other parts in smartphones taken from S.Korea, Japan and China.. (like screens, batteries, RAM etc.)

In case of Mate 60, it was reported that it only has ONE foreign part which is the RAM (SK Hynix) from S.Korea.

Nokia, for example, is going to do it much sooner.

Ouifuf, 20 Dec 2023For 99% of people the difference between all these chips do... moreI agree that if you dont game on a phone, you really dont need the latest and greatest chip on the market. For day to day usage, videos, camera etc. a mid range chip is more than enough. Im on a Poco X3 Pro, which has a 2019 chip inside basically and this phone works like a charm in 99% scenarios i use it.

But considering that there hasn't seen a new true successor after the Kirin 9000 since 2021, it's still impressive to see how much Huawei managed to catch up after years of China-US trade ban. It's just a matter of time before we see an all-new Kirin SoC that can be on par with at least Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.

Anonymous, 20 Dec 2023For 100% of the people the wallet matter. Why should i buy ... moreBecause the only thing inferior is the chipset. Other features like software and camera are on par or even better than competitors. I cannot understand why people cry when the chipset is inferior, although everything else is great.

First lg, then htc, now it's your turn to kick the bucket, Huawei...

Ouifuf, 20 Dec 2023For 99% of people the difference between all these chips do... more>just pay 800+ dollars for a phone with the performance of those half its price
                            >out of compassion with the shareholders and boardroom's pockets
nah, also if the tables were reversed you would be mocking others for their weak processors

For 99% of people the difference between all these chips don't matter. Very few ppl are buying things like the s23 ultra because they want the snapdragon for Samsung SoC. They're doing it because they want the best Samsung phone. Lots of people are rooting for huawei to make a come back and that's why the mate 60 is selling so well that they can't keep up with demand. More important things then performance.

Also if performance was that important no one would buy a pixel lol

This is why you don't go for flagship devices with Kirin 9000s, especially the Mate 60 RS Ultimate. They are overpriced for their performance. It would've made sense to put it in the Nova series, which they're doing rn.

900K score in AnTuTu 10 while Snapdragon 8 gen 3 has 2.1 Million score. This is more of a midrange chip not a flagship one.
