Its supposed to have carls zeiss optics, Sony has never in the past taken such a clear step towards quality in their phones before, not even in the cybershot days.
That might hint that Sony is taking it serious this time around.
And Sony has made the best digital compact ever in the RX100, its compact and it has a picture quality level never before found in a real compact, but the much thicker only so called compact cameras.
So this time around Sony might introduce something interesting this time.
N8 beats every Samsung cameraphone in terms of picture quality, and the 808 Pureview even more. And with optical image stbilization the 920, 925, 928 they performs better in low light situations and in videorecording. The lower resolution of the last three had disadvantages in perfectly lit situations compared to S4, but over all, I would hold the Nokia ones higher.
We are not talking DSLR here, they are not compact and not the kind of device you can always bring with. The RX100 plus a phone is worth the compromise over this.
Nokia EOS still fits you pocket, although a compromise, but a sensible one, unlike this one. This only fits your pockets like a compact camera, and then you should go for that (if you can afford, at this point in time, go for Sony RX100).

I'm not saying that this is a bad concept, but to call it a phone is a long stretch.
I like that samsung keeps calling capabilities in sim equipped products. If it has SIM-slot and data connectivity, it has all the chips needed to make calls, so why leave that out?
There can always be situations where it is usefull...
But it will hardly be you main phone, due to other compromises. Even with bluetooth or cable headset, it feels like a compromise. A tablet will give you a mobile experience that you will use connected at many times. A camera, is a device that you wont use a lot.. and with the restrictions of online services like instagram you dont need the improved camera features. So it just does not make as much sense as using your tablet as a phone. But adding the capabilities to make calls to a connected devices only cost a few dollars, so its still worth it in the end...
But its not a cameraphone, its a camera with calling capabilities, so it makes no sense to compare it with phones. And unfoutunately juding by the galaxy camera, this will probably not compare to well with compat digital cameras, not even samsungs own, but lets hope that at least that has changed with this verion.

AnonD-94869, 08 Jun 2013i am big nokia fan, i do not like samsung anymore, BUT, opt... moreI wouldnt bet on the sensor being larger in this one... however, the pixels probably are (but remember, those large sensor few pixel cameras of the past had much space between the pixels and not enourmouisly larger pixels than todays camera... and those pixels were not on the same quality as today, so fewer pixels on the samer area is not nevessarily better, it depens on the sensor).
1Optical zoom for the most part is worse when it comes to zooming in video, as its not silent.
Optical zoom requieres much more expensive optics for the same levels of destortion, as zoom is very distorting.
And this is not a camera.
it might be the better over all options if what you want is a camera, but on the other hand, then you are probably better off buying a small compact plus a cheaper phone.
The Nokia EOS is a somewhat clumpsy phone, that has a good for the size camera.
This is a camera, that is not really that compact, it just happens to have built in calling capabilities... Different products.

Does it have to look so ugly in order to distinguish its camera quality-picture? If it look like this and the picture quality is still inferior to the older counterpart the Nokia 41MP Pureview, that would be funny.

And as far as Sony camer phones go Samsung has almost always been better. Samsung has been better than many Nokia cameras phones as well. What's your point? They even make Sony's cameras work better in their phone.

A few years back, when we saw the Altek LEO, I tought that I could see myself talking in to something that is pretty much a camera.
But now, I much rather save my money for the Sony RX100 as a phone like this wont come close in terms of picture quality.
However the Pureview is still pretty much a phone, and can fit in your pocket, pretty much like a phone.
Let's see what Sony can offer. But this far, the Pureview is the clear winner. This galaxy is a camera with calling capabilities, and just an average compact digital camera, not a high en pro one.
Considering that the first Pureview had an optical resolution about half the resolution of the sensor, fitting a 20MP sensor behing optics of that class, might not at all be a downgrade from the pureview, despite the lower pixel count. And if Sony has gotten their camera development crew working on the Honami, the same guys that worked on the RX100, they might have something real cool up their sleve.
But before either of those are out on the market, there is no saying what might be cooking at other makers R&D. Samsung could have more to show, HTC as well and Panasonic and the rest.

It is because Samsung fans could not defend the ugly design of this phone and will never be able to make it possible even in the future. This is one of the ugliest phones ever announced! S4 is really the name that brought curse to Samsung. A lot have not been impressed with the GS4's look and people thought that almost all its features are just some type of gimmick. Now it is posted as one of the latest news here at gsm arena that Sammy is starting to experience slow down of its shares in the market. Why? Because they can not keep up the war as being the best smartphone maker forever. Fanboys of Sammy like you are now starting to turn their backs especially if this is what you will see with the company. Sony for sure will take the cake with Honami. Just watch your GS4, S4 Active and S4 Zoom get buried soon by Nokia and Sony. Sammy's only hope to be saved is through the Note 3 but I guess its going to have a tough time competing with Sony's Togari phablet which will for sure be a better looking device. Go and buy this brick. Even if Samsung gives it to me for free I will just say "No Thanks" to this. :P

And the naming of this device is just stupid, in what way is this a S4???? Should have named it Samsung Galalxy S (2013) Zoom... :)
