Has anyone found any information about a security chip? Does the 1 VI have a security chip like the Tensor chips in Google's Pixels? And how about the possibility to find your device through the FindMyDevice network even when it's off (Android 15 feature)?
I'm wondering why Sony does not promote any security features?

Japanese companies in general are incapable of making good consumer tech products. Fujitsu will launch a laptop with 650 ports, while the display and laptop body comes straight from 2004. Sharp will release a phone with 240Hz but has the fingerprint sensor of all things break they symmetry of the screen by making a chinned notch DISGUSTING!.

YUKI93, 17 May 2024Just so you know, sales doesn't represent choice. You ... moreSony did use to sell more phone than Samsung then they starting making phones with a limp. $1200 usd with 8/128, or horrendous scene detection and auto capture, relatively slow charging, reduced OS support from previous years, uselessly high resolution straight to embarrassing for flagship resolutions, 6-8 months slower to release. They seem to be literally incapable of making a phone that is undeniably good all round and seem to purposely shoot themselves in the foot everytime.

SuperSpruce, 16 May 2024Why is nobody talking about the most important improvement ... moreI get the battery thing, but if you downgrade the 4k, why is it still so expensive?

notdominic, 16 May 2024I cannot understand why everyone on this site seems to thin... moreYou are correct. Many don't need a headphone jack or plugin memory or great audio circuitry. But for those of us that do, this is a very important phone. In case you don't know, wireless listening devices do not offer great sound, good yes. But for those of us who rely on making technical decisions while on the go or those wanting to listen to the best possible audio, we need wires and a lot of storage space for our 192 X 24 bit audio. So...thank you Sony. And by the way, I'm an Audio Engineer/Musician. 🎵🔊

I would of done better than Sony with the Xperia 1 VI, I used to buy Samsung phones before, they always have hardware issues so I switch to Sony but am always disappointed with the Xperia 1, Sony have a few things going in their favour, their phone look unique, like the square edges, notification light, stock Android os, superior hardware quality and Sony's simple UI. All they needed to do is pair these features with a phone with the same screen Resolution like a Galaxy S24+ with 4 years of OS updates and 5 years of security patches. All the fuss over the camera and the camera app doesn't mean much to me. Yes the new Xperia 1 VI has better battery life but at the expense of 1080p Display and a higher price tag, that not a smart move Sony.

Anonymous, 15 May 2024Periscope is not 1/3.5". Such sensor does not exist.... moreYeah so what? At the end of the day it's a crop. The 1 inch in the Pro-I was 1 inch by name only, it was a cropped sensor. 1 inchers can also be considered a 2.7x crop of Full frame cameras. By your logic 1 inch sensors are basically full frame sensors then right?

The 1/3.5" periscope sensor does exist, that's the result of the crop of the 1/1.7" sensor. They just didn't name it something new. No marketing budget for that ig. Besides, who likes to talk about a crop of a huge sensor instead of an actual, big sensor? It was for the good that they didn't name it/make it an official sensor. This sucks. On the same level as Samsung's 3x telephoto.

Release date better be by late June 2024

Absolutele, disaster, who will pay 1399 for such crap? Sony as usual wants to kill their mobile division and trying really hard 😂

Anybody got info whether this one has "high" video stabilization available in 4k60p?
And also, does it switch lenses in 4k60p?
                          Thanks in advance

Sony has more official store than Samsung in japan, but where is the outstanding sales of Xperia in Japan???😂

Just accept that Sony is inferior phone and move on.

I would gladly trade in my Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra for that Sony Xperia 1 VI

Anonymous, 16 May 2024"I never see japanese people..bla..bla..bla.." ... moreJust so you know, sales doesn't represent choice. You can sell your own brand's product for as much as you like, but that doesn't mean people won't look at other choices. And another thing: Region availability also factors the sales number. If Sony Xperia sells in the same number of countries as Samsung Galaxy, it won't be surprising to see Sony gets more sales than Samsung. Maybe you should accept the fact that competition exists.

SuperSpruce, 16 May 2024Why is nobody talking about the most important improvement ... moreThe battery life is excellent. I understand that some people want a higher resolution for a device that costs €1,399, though. Personally, I'm okay with it. In my opinion, a sweet spot is between a wide 1080p to a wide 1440p, though.

Anonymous, 16 May 2024Why don't you accept the fact that it's completel... moreNo, it's very important for consumers how many people buy products. If there aren't enough people buy products, they may be discontinued. See LG phones as an example.

Why is nobody talking about the most important improvement this Gen has: The battery life? Last gen got a middling 12:24 score (while the 5 V had an excellent 16:12 score). But this phone got an incredible 17:27 score! This pretty much places it right at the top in terms of battery life. This might be controversial, but I would absolutely take the resolution tradeoff to get 5% more battery life, and this offers 40% better battery life than the last gen. Good choice, Sony.
