Lowering the screen resolution from 4K was a massive mistake, most flagships are now ‘always on 3K’ and Sony has gone even lower into mid ranger resolution which for the price is ridiculous. OnePlus 12 - 510 PPI, Xperia 1 VI - 396 PPI down from 643 PPI!

it's all good except the price. i still can't afford a 2nd hand zenphone 9 so this will never make it onto my radar even when it's truly obsolete.

Anonymous, 15 May 2024Now that the cat is out of the bag.. Sony, the new Xperia i... moreIf you want the jack and slot, you could just buy a previous Xperia or a Chinese midranger.

All the new improvements, particularly from the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, the LTPO OLED screen panel, and also the 3.5x-7.1x zoom, yet still retain the same €1,399 as before? Hats off to Sony for such a brave decision. Sony could've sell it for a higher price like Samsung did with the Galaxy S24 Ultra, but they didn't.

But as much as I am already in love with this phone, I'm still not sure about getting one since there will be the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC with in-house Nuvia CPU. I don't doubt this phone can deliver great performance, but the transition away from Arm (as in the company, not the chipset architecture) is a big deal.

                They should've done this:

•Change the resolution to 3360×1440 instead of 2340×1080 (thus retaining the 21:9 aspect ratio)
•For the selfie, use a slightly larger sensor that is 48MP
•For the variable telephoto, use a larger (1/2.9"-type or even 1/2.5"-type if possible), custom 2-layer stacked CMOS sensor that is 48MP; make the focal lengths range from 75-150mm instead of 85-170mm; and make it be able to do macro
•For the ultrawide, use the LYT 600 and crop from it to have an effectively 48MP sensor, and make it be able to do macro
•Give a proper variable focal aperture to the main camera (I also just love its macro capabilities)
                •Make the bezels thinner
•Increase peak brightness to at least 2400 nits

Only 4000 people globally watched the livestream. Wow that is terrible. Millions usually watch those things like you see with Apple’s product launches. Really indicates how little the Xperia brand means anymore.

Honestly I was expecting a 48 MP periscope lens instead of the 12 MP one, but I am glad they upgraded the zoom range, and there is the option to take full resolution shots as well.

Now that the cat is out of the bag.. Sony, the new Xperia is very disappointing.

                      Camera / Display

But ok for people who want jack and slots... but paying a premium for it.

Anonymous, 15 May 2024But can you point a different model that puts the jack+sdca... moreMeh, have the Xperia 5 IV, thought sdcard would be useful. It's utter junk.
I have a Samsung pro ultimate 512GB, the same type I use in my dji 4k 120hz drone or in the gopro hero 12, but the performance in the phone is horrible...
If saving photos to the card, the response is slower. Videos can only be recorded with 4k30, even 4k60, you have to change to internal (the 5 IV only having 128GB). Even navigation software is horribly slow and unresponsive if the maps are saved on the sdcard.

Rather stupid that I the EU you get 256 instead of 512GB internal storage, like in Asia....
Honsstly the 1 v seems like auch a good deal compared to this one. This one has only 2 pluses compared to the 1 v: ltpo and the higher zoom. Worse resolution, more expensive. The rest is basically the same... The cpu will most probably not be able to use the extra performance, so the sd8 gen 2 is more than sufficient in the 1 v... Even the old aspect ratio is on many occasions more practical, (holding and using in 1 hand)

                                Yeees! Finally here!

What a mediocre features that doesn't fit a flagship, and with this insane pricing. FHD+ screen instead of QHD+, 12GB ram instead of 16GB and lacks wired and wireless fast charging. I don't know what Sony is doing sticking to specs dated 2 years behind except for the processor, way behind the competition and charging this insane price. What a joke.

                                        bad pricing
the downgraded display doesn't reflect the price.
no 1tb option and 512GB is only available in Japan, EU is stuck with 256 GB
still a small display with big chins..
The only good thing is it kept an sd card and Jack and maybe thermal throttle, but in the end with the same price, you might as well get a 1 TB s24u variant which has amazing cameras, bigger display, and more features.
