But both still are too expensive for the actual poor countries. What do you think Nokia will do with these handed in phones? They end up in low end markets as second hand devices. Destroying them would be way too expensive, selling them in western countries does not stand a chance against ebay-offers and the likes.

There is no science fiction involved. Feature phones are a dying breed. They won't be gone instantly, but their volume will become so small, it is near impossible to make a proper profit out of it. If OS's like Firefox OS as well will have proper lift-off, it's a done deal. Nokia can't lay back and depend on their feature phones, but their smart phone division is not catching on.

AnonD-4697, 30 Jun 2013Not quite right. You see in the emerging economy countries ... moreNokia's feature phone sales went down with over 20% YoY last quarter. They tumbled over 15 million sales. That's not what I would describe as doing well. Feature phones are a dying markt, with the emerging of cheaper smartphones all over the place, even in emerging markets. Places where even the cheapest smartphones are too expensive, often are places where second hand devices (be it feature or smart) go to from the richer countries, i.e. no sales for actual companies either.

Generally, in a year from now, feature phone sales could be nothing more than marginal sales along the smartphone sales.

You see in the emerging economy countries people don't care too much on expensive phones, in fact they just want SMS or basic phone calls. And thos countries are the major Nokia buyers. They sold 100 featured phones over 1 smart phone. Most of them Nokia ones.

Those numers are official you can google around those numers (in fact are amazing). Nokia is a Monster on Featured phones, they pass over any other manufacturer in that area XD

323,64 million dollars arent peanuts for any company, gosh even Samsung want that numbers over they S4 >P

Well only for your knowledge, Nokias has problems in Smart-phone area BUT in featured phones is one leader.

This is because they know how to do business with people that don't need an smart-phone at all, and believe me, in the first quarter of 2013 the sold 55,8 millions of featured phones, this make an profit of 323,64 million dollars. Very impressive numbers.

Some people are heaters but even they know Nokias was an outstanding leader and that was an fact. Even they sold almost 6 million Lumia phones in the first quarter, very good for an WP device (people didnt even realize they can get those numbers). For a "dead company" is good.

LoL "Dead company" title makes me laught very hard.....

This sales sound very good, they just need to regain terrain, but the can teach every one one lesson or two about selling AND manufacturing phones.

Only the processor is the same hardware as other manufacturers but the screen, camera, materials, and the quality that comes along them are completely different and far superior on Nokia. Even the 1080p screen of Sony Xperia Z loses miserably in quality to a nHD screen of Nokia 808. Nokia spends so much on R&B to come up with high-quality and robust phones while the others like Samsung and Apple spends more on advertising to sell their inferior quality cheap products.
