13 August, 2013
The update will reportedly target the Lumia 920 first, so it might be a staggered rollout.

z, 13 Aug 2013Windows Phone is successor of Windows Mobile. It is not NEW... more"Windows Phone is successor of Windows Mobile. It is not NEW it's older than android. UI changes can't make it a new os"
      False!
Windows Phone 7 has CE Kernel
Windows Phone 8 has NT Kernel
After 7.8 update the UI is almost the same,
but the inside is still totally different.
When the Windows Phone 8.1 arrives in Feb 2014 the Metro style Windows 8.1 and the WP8.1 (and Xbox One) will share the same API - great for developers, benefit for users during 2014 while bringing updates also during the year.

            for ex:
Each tab in IE opened as separate apps, if you opened 6 tabs, you will lost any other apps you opened,You can't save web pages for offline reading
First I loved Live Tiles, Slowly I feel its boring

                      I have a nokia lumia 710, one year old…
                      WP 7.8
                      Single core 1.4GHz processor
5mp primary camera and no secondary camera, no HD video or picture
                      No NFC
                      14.4mbps download speed
8GB onboard storage and 512mb RAM with no microSD slot
                      3.7” TFT display 252ppi
Love it, never experienced lag, rebooting, freezing or dropped calls…

                      And a Samsung S3, 3 months old…
                      Android Jelly Bean
                      Quad core 1.4GHz processor
8mp primary camera, 1.9mp secondary camera, HD video and image
                      NFC capable
                      21mbps download speed
32GB onboard storage and 1GB RAM and expandable
                      4.8” Super AMOLED display 306ppi
Lags on apps, freezes daily, reboots 3 to 4 times a day, drops 80% of calls

So I guess that means Android is better?

this is not good. Lumia users already need lots of features in phone and Amber is a hope. if Nokia+Microsoft make user wait more & more then they should not hope to compete with Google's Android.

Anonymous, 14 Aug 2013You don't think not being able to go forward-backward in yo... more1: Valid point, forward - backward is needed.

2: Hardly a problem, most of the office type files like .doc are very light and using cloud solutions with WiFi or mobile data should be pretty standard.

3: Send videos and MP3 via e-mail? Again there is cloud solutions like Skydrive.

4: People expectations are very different, specially if you compare one stuff with another, instead in focusing on the device itself. For me I made some sacrifices by using WP8, in my case Android is no longer useful and secure at least using it as a phone (I keep my Asus TF300 android tablet)
Need a fast - fluid, simple UI, and most important no fuss - no complications with the phone, no time for it. That's why I choose WP8, not because Android is bad, it's because of my needs.

See? You wife expectations are different than mine concerning with phones. I'm very satisfied with the Lumia 920 it delivers almost all I want.

You don't think being unable to view the filesystem and being able to save mobileoffice files and copy them to your computer without the cloud or the Nokia suite is a problem?

You don't think being able to save videos and mp3's directly from e-mails into your phone without detaching the files on a computer first and then syncing them to the phone is a problem?

I could go on, but there are plenty of people on net blogs who have documented the shortcomings of the OS. Then you have the history of Microsoft with their Mobile platform and it's just the same old bad news all over again for about the 3rd time now.

My wife always liked Nokia, but after her experience with the 820 she said she never wants another Nokia again.

As for me? No thank you. I had enough with Microsoft and their old versions of Mobile going back to 5.x
