Nokia revolutionized the mobile phone market and their quality and build are second to none.

Blame and dislike Nokia. But kindly remember, Microsoft, owns Nokia. Has owned Nokia for years. The current proceedings between Microsoft and Nokia, are only to inject Microsoft's cash into Nokia's coffers, and gain control. Microsoft & Nokia are in bed together. Microsoft is going after Android. Period. People, believe that. History will tell. We're powerless. The media profits by mis-reporting the facts. And using as this site does constant, subtle disparaging comments. But we all see that. Just watch. Microsoft profits by theft of IP from XEROX to gain access to then something called the GUI. Invented and funded by XEROX. History tells us. As it will again.

First of all, the HDR microphone is something Nokia has licensed for a year and no one can use that tech except Nokia for a year. When these kind of deals are done, these are then published on many social networks as well as newspapers so that everyone should know of what some company has included in it's asset recently and as HTC being a giant mobile company should know what it is putting inside it's flagship. This exception, "Not HTC's fault" shouldn't be drag here because HTC "should" know what it is putting into its flagship. There is a R&D department for that.
Nokia's license for one year over HAAC tech is enough to impose a ban on importing this tech in HTC's flagship for a year and if HTC want to do that. They should have payed the license fee to Nokia.
On this topic. Don't you get it? It's even a common sense thing that "HTC SHOULD KNOW WHAT IT IS PUTTING IN IT'S FLAGSHIP". They have to do research for the tech they are putting in their phones that if it's been patented by some other company or whether its their own invention.
You sir have failed to understand the logic of doing business. I guess, you should also learn or at-least check your knowledge before calling out someone. Get it?

We all learn what’s right and wrong in life and not to steal from others etc. So why do companies find it so hard to apply this rule to their business models.

some of you have absolutely no ideea what are you talking about but still, you are entitled to an opinion, only it would be nice in the future to build that opinion on facts and one of them is "Nokia's stu(3.14)dity" as some have called it in the past - spending more money on research(you know this word right?) than all other phone companies combined. But for some like you it's ok to just give for free the work, hey, why don't you work for free?

Why this is wrong that Nokia is suing HTC for using Nokia's tech in HTC"s product illegally? Do you even know a word of business? What if you invented something and you implemented a license fees of it's use by some other company and some company without paying you license fees using it. Don't you get hot because of it?

As on this topic, Nokia has done research and investment for research and for this wireless tech so automatically, Nokia want to earn from those who use it's invented researched tech. Patenting some tech these days is normal since every OEM is trying to earn $$$ from any source it can get and this is one of the best sources. Even though, Nokia holds many patents so if you want to use some Nokia's invented tech. You need to license it first which HTC, a competitor of Nokia doesn't so it's illegal. Get it?

The problem is that everyone can get patent for anything today. If the solution is "obvious" to anyone, the pattens shall not be granted; or if there is a "minor change" to a design. This is the law, but law is only for suckers; or for Asian companies.
The people who invented microphone, got no patent for it. But nokia has a patent for putting a plastic in front of microphone.

The HDR microphone patents had nothing to do worth HTC and everything to do work the company that made them in conjunction work Nokia and then sold them to others. HTC was given a pass on that. And as any thinking person may have gathered from this episode, this is more of a Qualcomm issue as they are manufacturer of the cost involved. Sure, it sticks for HTC but it's a bit of a stretch to assume they just up and decided to willy nilly use tech that they knew belongs to another OEM. As is often the case with these things the patent in question probably has more to do work the implementation and not the actual function.

I have no idea why HTC used many patents of Nokia without even paying the license fee. This is just getting ridiculous now. Every month, we are seeing some insides of HTC One's which are unlicensed.
