Each major release of ios re-introduces battery drain and connectivity issues. Right now, bugs on ios 7 with 5s has 2x the bugs on 5c or 5. Now let's not forget the handset quality issues when the iphone 5 came out. When was the last time Sony, HTC, LG or Nokia, etc had major manufacturing issues with their handsets that required a significant number of phones to be returned?

iPhone 5c should have had iPod Touch 5th gen specs: iPhone 5 screen, iPhone 4S chipset, and iPhone 4 camera. It should have replaced the iPhone 4S as well, and be offered as the true entry level iPhone.

Statistics are a wonderful thing and of course Android is the most widely spread OS - it's open source and can run on anything. That doesn't mean that's a good thing though. Symbian was also widespread and still pretty useless.
iPhone users have proven over and over again to use their phone for more of everything. More e-Mail, more apps, more internet browsing.
Quality over quantity is the key here.
