Basically Tizen will compete directly with Ubuntu Touch, indirectly with Android, and remotely to other open OSes. No OS out of the box will compete with Android on a feature to feature basis; it'd be silly; Android has taken many years to mature to its current level of service. But Google has a tendancy to strip out apps, label them "Google Experience", and close the source [albeit the apps are still free to end users]. So true-blue linux people started sniffing ideas like Ubuntu Touch & Tizen. Its good for the community at large, but something drives it... in the case of Google its advertising revenue for the most part. If even a noble, open project gets little attention, they tend to dry up. Case in point WebOS by HP was open; think they sold it off to LG to be revamped a smarttv os. I'd say, unless you want to be involved in making the development for new OS devices better, you're probably best suited for android, iOS or windows. If you're a geek who enjoys being in the grind, one of these new OSes offers you some bountiful experiences [like android did 5 years back]. Sorry BB users, your loyalty is appreciated, but proprietary OSes compete or die, and right now, you're not competing.

Samsung killed off Bada, started with Tizen which is an Android copy with TouchWiz UI and nothing else and in no time, this will turn out to be a huge FAIL.

Remember BADA? Many promises from samsung, great at first, got worse, gone. Tizen will most problably be another flop with extra care on production quantities.

Microsoft is failing to gain any traction on their Windows Phone marketplace; but they're doing better than Ubuntu Touch, FireFox OS and all others. Plus Microsoft has been trying for years now, and they're still behind.

I don't see what's different with Tizen, given that the market is saturated with countless mobile operating systems already.

However, I am willing to support Samsung and Intel; and ultimately Tizen; but I wouldn't expect many apps on this OS; unless it pre-supports Android apps, which I believe is important.

It would be great if app developers could develop for one platform alone; but that's not possible. So iOS and Android are the two chosen platforms. Provided Android is open-source, use their apps. Implement native support on Tizen for Android/Dalvik/ART. Supporting the developers will assist your OS to develop; as developers cater for consumers.

In general, it would be wise for Android apps to support Tizen natively; heck package in Google Play Store. I'm confident Samsung can develop their own OS, especially as they have developed TouchWiz to a high standard, plus Tizen is backed by many other companies, including Intel.

P.S. I realise Google Play Store cannot be packaged into Tizen out-of-the-box, as that would require Samsung to pay royalties to Google; which is why Samsung is working on Tizen in the first place. Still, I can't find another solution to Tizen's lack of apps.

If Tizen is optimized and can work flawlessly on older(weaker) devices.Than it will be widely accepted without need of specialized phones for it.
