I suspect that their PC business is seeing falling profits (or losses), even if revenues are growing. Revenues just reflect how much money is brought into the company from the product sales. You need to know their costs of production and sales before you can know profits. Sony must believe that the profits (or losses) they're experiencing with the PC business don't justify staying in the business. They're looking for a higher-margin business.

don't sell vaio sony! Vaio introduced the first laptop with bluray ,HD screen in computer world Vaio AR (2006) ...and yes Vaio was the first who introduced Ultrabook in 2004 ..X505 thin like macbook air ..( the first macbook air was introduced in 2008 btw) and yeah Vaio pro 13 is the first laptop with 4gen intel haswell ..and many more like premium design , beautiful , classy , bold etc etc

Those numbers are joke.
The day Sony killed the Aibo project (and many others) was the day that the end of Sony began.
Before 2020 they company will end or be sold to someone else.
So where do the Sony and good old Ericsson fans turn to? I suggest Jolla or even Yota

Since Sony manufactures cell phones with external memory slot, sells much better. That should do the same manufacturers that copy iPhone limitations (no memory card slot without user replaceable battery). Any Xperia with Exmor R photo sensor is much better than a Galaxy S4 camera in low light conditions. And now that the Xperia Z1 won Best Cell Phone 2013 is kep, Sony will sell even better. Sony Congratulations!

EH? Sales is increasing, from 1.3 (1st Q) upto 1.7 (3rd Q) that's almost 50% increase. Are you guys blind?
And WTF are "impairment charges"?
In fact if you look closely you see that revenue ICNREASED on ALL levels compared to FY2012 except Devices. This went down from 217.3 to 216. This is LESS then 0.6% yet they "claim" that operating loss increased from +9.7 to -23.8. This bullshit!
It means they either spend money investing in other companies, plants and/or employees (Higher bonus fees for CEO's for instance) or they simply threw money out the Windows (probably into the wallets of CEO's).
But this is NOT right. They're either lying or have a very bad bookkeeper. Or maybe a good one trying to make Sony look like it looses money so it doesn't need to pay taxes and dividents to shareholders (except the CEO's whom still get their big bonus I guess).
The problem here is that IF Sony does indeed sell off their PC business a lot of low-grade employees will loose their job while (as usual) the CEO's get rewarded with big bonusses for their supposed "rescue plan". FU Sony!

OT, i was amazed once again of LG quality, so terrible. And then i am of course talking about refrigeraton and aircondition products, my G so terrible. Was sitting outside an office while waiting for some stuff the other day and there was this terrible sound coming form somewhere, didnt take long before i spotted the two letters, LG, on the back of an aircon unit, and yes thats where the sound came from. Seen/heard this many times before and experienced sleepless night at hotels due to weak and noisy airconditioners and they are always the same, LG or Samsung without any exceptions. Korfeans just dont know how to make refrigeration compressors, they get weak and noisy after short time use.
Our two old aircon units with Matsushita compressors are still running cool and quiet, Japanese tech. Same with car aircons, Denso and Keihin are the best in compressors.

Its very sad, yes, but the market for premium laptops isnt big enough to keep Vaio afloat, and the Vaio E-series are cheap with low profitability and doesnt offer anything over the competition, you get slightly better specs at the same price from Taiwanese manufacturers and to be honest the E-series does not have the best TN panels around.

Xperia sold 2.5 million more than Lumias at a much higher average price, you know selling the 520 doesnt really count, Nokias problem is that 1020 (and other high end models as well) has flopped, not even the fanboys want it, its a slow and ugly dinosaur, doesnt matter if the camera is better whjen its so over saturated and takes a year to save a photo, of course people go to Xperia Z1 instead. I hope the 1520 does not flop so they can sell a few phones with profit for a change.

entz, 06 Feb 2014Too bad they have to give up their PC division I really lik... moreSeems you are not updated, i can recommend visiting a Sony Vaio dealer before its to late and try the Duo 13, its everything the Duo 11 should have been. We have to admit that Duo 11 had some design flaws but the Duo 13 is perfection. You will also enjoy testing out the Tap 11, it sure impressed me (i tested a more expensive version with i5 cpu and other upgrades, the base model is much less powerful).
I hope Vaio under its new owners will make a fast comeback to Asia Pacific region, after all it was selling somewhat well in the region, its those greedy europeans buying cheap taiwanese garbage who caused Vaio to fail, low appreciation of premium products.
Most of all i hope the new Vaios without Sony in the name will continue to have that premium aura.
