I will assume that samsung will only allow the fingerprint to be used by the third party apps and not share the fingerprint information with each app developer.
Samsung will make the fingerprint scanner more usefull choosing that path but as for the security conserns we really don't know which company has better secured our information.
That being said I am strongly oposed on using my fingerprint for password purposes. This is mostly for the same reason we are warned NOT to use the same password for everything in our life and also change our password frequently.
The problem is that IF something goes wronge and your fingerpring gets hacked they have immediatly access to everything you use it for. What makes it even worse is that you can not change your fingerprint to a new one as like any password. So you will have to disable everything you are using to open with fingerprint for the rest of your life.
I don't know about samsung but for apple it's sure that you don't even need a "live" fingerprint to use it.
Bottom line is that everything is hackable and I prefer having the ability to change my passwords now and then rather than having a permenant one for the rest of my life. Is it convinient? YES it is - but not worth the risk

With open source Android it will be great for hackers and exactly for NSA to collect people's fingerprint. Thanks Apple for not letting other apps to use our fingerprint.

"On the other hand the fingerprint scanner opens a world of possibility and enhanced usability."......more than just replacing a password don't see its use ....the bad thing I think about the S5 fingerprint scanner it only works in one direction only (swipe it )and just as a laptop fingerprint scanner lots of grease , dirt and skin will accumulate around the home button ...don't want to sound like a apple fan but this S5 is not very attractive or packed with new technology ..at least an aluminum case wold have made it more desirable ...we will wait and see if the S5 is a success or fail but in my opinion and many others will be a fail , in 6 months they will release a new S5 premium or something like that or S6

If our personal email ids and contact numbers are not enough for companies to use as a commodity.. We have now got fingerprints...!!!
Well its probably the most dangerous thing.... Coz it is something we cannot change like numbers ...

Before these smart phones.and all those apps.. ( who ask access to email id and number ) .. My email used to be free of tons of those promotional messages....

Well... With hackers and NSA .. Etc are growing like anything..

Excellent! This way our fingerprints will become public data rather sooner than later! LOL

Opens up a world of possibilities true but for hackers and scammers with malicious intentions. Wont be buying S5 anytime soon.
