THIS IS NOT 50 MP, IT IS MORE LIKE "16 MP".
I decided to test a theory. Using Photoshop CC (no vector resizing plugins here, just simple stock functions), I reduced the image size from "8160 x 6120" to "4640 x 3480" (16 MP) resampling with "Bicubic (smooth gradients)". I then enlarged the result back to the original resolution (again with bicubic smooth). If any detail was lost, then it would look like this:

This image was dropped to 2040 x 1530 (3 MP) before getting bumped back to 8160. However, the 16 MP result was this:

It certainly looks like the camera is a 16 MP sensor, with a bicubic enlargement post-process.
Bottom line; forget the number of megapixels for a second. It is still a great photo from a PHONE camera (if a legit source).

According to my personal opinion, such marketing gimmicks are not necessary at all. Instead a 16mp camera which records UHD and can shoot slo mo videos, have hdr+, full 360° panorama, and excellent autofocus and burst shots with optical image stabilisation, video stabilisation and a good 2.4A illuminated CMOS sensor with amazing low light shots would be perfect! now i realize that oppo might bring in many of these features, but it really depends upon how well it implements and how good the user experience is...now i realize that oppo is a great upcoming mobile manufacturer but still at the end of the day, it this camera is gonna perform probably like a 10mp moto x, then im gonna be upset with it.

Even the pureview tech. If only you zoomed by 2x u lose the oversampled benefits
And the ugly truth is revealed.
Pureview at lowlight only works without zooming. Start using your 3x lossless zoom and u start loosing the pureview oversampled benefit as they are wasted in zooming.
In my opinion 1/2.3" sensor with 8mp are the best equation.
Htc One Ultrapixel idea is great too ... If only they could change it to 8mp

Bigger Sensor Doesn't Mean Better Quality. 41MP Nokia Pureview is the best till date and Oppo Can't Make the Best Camera With 50MP crammed in with just one shot. The "Image After Processing" Will Make it Either a "HIT" or "MISS". Moreover "RAW" support if given will make this 50MP camera somewhat useful to photoshop users. Otherwise it will be just another Decent Snapper, Not the Best.

There's no loss if U buy the phone as long as the camera works as promised and by the way nothing is completely set in stone. I'm sure in the 60's no one thot a computer would become mobile etc so let the phone come out 1st b4 U judge. Mkayyy?

nokia used their 41 megapixels different by producing 5 megapixels and oversampling, and it only shoots at full 38 megapixel, plus for a 50 megapixel camera oppaare going to have to make the sensor bigger again that nokia's else the image quality is going to be worse!

Technically it's just 50mp but it can capture 200mp images by shooting 6 times while moving the sensor. Or the Hasselblad H5D-60 with the 60mp sensor. Or the Mamiya/Leaf 80mp camera.

Higher pixels photo is not equal to better photo quality but it will create problems of finding space to store and backup such big photo files and sharing such big photo files with friends ...

The find 7 teaser image makes an impression of a curved display... camera being 50MP will be a great addition though i would like to see 3d image capture more.
