With my respects for your opinion. I shifted from Android to WP deliberately and find myself forced to move back to Android due to A) OS shortcomings (From the lack of proper sharing functions to the fact Office can't work with SD nor can open password protected files to the fact the keyboard lacks some essential input modes like Chinese with Pinyin and a Swipe function for keyboard. I'll skip on resizable keyboard to allow you to use the device with one hand as it happens in other phablets); B) Market choice is not only poor but mediocre in most implementations. I don't know which apps you use but i couldn't find one Map app that does what i need (i downloaded 6 and bought 2); Couldn't find a proper news aggregator with all the functions Android/iOS has (I have Collector, Weave and Flux, tried all the others too); I couldn't find a proper Calendar app (bought 2 and none of them allows me to manage GCalendar events properly). Customization with those sad tiles that are more than icons but less than widgets and API limitations is very poor. I have 3 rows of icons on a 6" screen but can't use 3x2 tiles as Microsoft has decided tiles only have 3 sizes. Choice of colours fixed by MSFT and no chances to make tiles as you really want. C) Lack of mail aggregation and i have to keep 8 huge tiles on my main screen. Skype can't share video/files.
All this on a device that costs 700 Euros (Nokia 1520). Maybe it works well in Africa. But to me, compared to any middle range Android WP is subpar. And this from someone who is desperately looking for an alternative to Android.

Anonymous, 09 Mar 2014MS made Windows Phone with the focus of stability and speed... moreI think many WP haters come from the time WP was still young and popular apps were poorly built (though some still are). Coming from a long time WP user, and still one at that, I find myself customizing my other phone (an Android) to emulate WP experience often.
Microsoft has a long list of products and services, and just because one or two of their products don't meet your expectations it doesn't mean Microsoft 'sucks' as a whole.

sam, 11 Mar 2014If it has to be done android then why dont u switch to andr... moreI doubt that you understood my write up, or probably you are over protective about WP OS! Anyway, my point is that heavy customisation on a phone has a way to thrill users about the level of ingenuity and intuitiveness of the company's programmers, and still the device would potentially respond to speed and work around optimisation. In the case of WP OS, the OS is under-baked and seriously over simplified and to worsen their dead ends, it is locked down. However, I'm not Microsoft mobile OS' fan, 'cause from time immemorial, they have been failing and are so unreliable in that game. I had chose Nokia as my best mobile phone manufacturer and I think their worst mistake is to follow losers, like MS. Nokia had tried in the past to maintain their reputation, but recently, they are over confused and blind to predict the market's direction. Should I say that they are losers too by joining losers? No! That's why they need opinions of users to make a reasonable leap forward, or they'll soon deaden out. Meanwhile, those teddy bear phones that Nokia manufactured recently and called android phones are for kids and people that are first time smartphone users, in a bid to promote MS dumb tiles and services.
Dude, do your maths well before replying to my comments again!

Windows Phone works out of the box like iOS but offer more hardware options. Android is too much maintenance, force closes, and freezes.

I fell in to be played with by MS because of Nokia(my favorite durable hardware packaging company)! What a crap that I'm utterly dissatisfied with this WP Os! I hate this Os for not keeping old loved ways of doing things; brought in nonsense oversimplified tiles that look dumb to me and the rest of the world! No customization to spark up new feelings of love for your device! Do MS think that themes are old-fashioned? If so, I bet they will be patronized again by an already dissatisfied customer of Nokia like me! The Os needs to be overhauled 'cause lots are missing, like: file manager, good media player, OS work around optimization, etc! Wake up Nokia and go completely android way, if MS are slowing u down! I still love Nokia; pls don't disappoint your loyal customers!

Yes ur updates on WP give you..."App and Game data stored on SD cards", "Option to always download emails and pictures within them", "Start screen backgrounds", "Navigation bar for phones without physical keys on the front", "Separate volume controls for ringtones/notifications and music/media", - buahahaha, this things and many others was even in old Symbian, before touchscreens so wtf MS is doing ? Poeple pay for testing beta ?!

So after 4/5 years MS give us what they should do in 2010/11 ? It should be update when they abandon WP and show WP 8. Sorry but people cant wait ~ 4 years for basic functions. And someone wondering why WP have only 4% market share :D

I had a Lumia 800 until I dropped it and smashed the screen so I purchased a Nokia 101 for $37 as a temp phone until the NEW NOKIA 929 (Icon) is released here in Australia with hopefully windows 8.5 on 8th April 2014.

Nokia Lumia 929.....Perfect phone to take on Shamesung Galaxy S5 and the latter iPhone 6 or whatever Apple name their next phone.

Has there still not been a major update to Windows for mobile phones? I sold my Nokia 820 in the summer and went back to HTC, I can't believe Windows is still so far behind! What are Microsoft doing? Did they just stick two under motivated teenage nerds in a cellar with Commodore 64s and call them the Windows Phone R&D division?

Reports suggest WP8.1 MAY have something like this. I agree that it is a major omission in WP7/WP8. We'll see shortly.

                                    > 1. Media player that plays all audio/video formats.
When programs have access to user files, then they can do this no problem.

Bought a Lumia 925 week back and the UI is awesome. Metro UI might not be a good idea on Desktop/ Laptop, but it is rocking on mobile phones.

I believe a notification center and multitasking, better application management is the only stuff. If windows 8.5 brings all that then certainly Windows Phone are going to be the next big thing.
