I admit I've never had a Sony Z1, but I've seen plenty of camera comparisons where the Z1 or Z2 was part of it.
In all these comparisons, I was always wondering why the Z1 pictures were always looking much worse than the Exynos version of the S4 (that's the one I had before the S5) although the sensor was supposed to be the same (Sony's own Exmor RS IMX135).
I'm not saying they were ugly, but it felt like wasted potential.
In more recent comparisons, the Z2 doesn't seem to do much better than the Z1 unfortunately, but again, I'm basing myself on numerous camera comparisons on review sites, so I don't have first hand experience with it.

there's a lot of visible noise and the noise reduction is still strong enough to smear out some of the fine detail (especially in darker areas of the image). We also had issues with the camera missing the focus in several images.
Actually, it looks like there's a lens defect as the image just right of the center looks softer than it should be (we even checked for smudges on the camera and retook the photos). So much for "Sony G Lens"

This story is so untrue, go ask store for yourself. Staff have sad Samsung have not sold no where near as much as the S4. In fact, the Phone to beat is the HTC One (M8) as far as new phones go.
The best-selling phone right now is still IPhone 5S.

This surprises me, I don't know if I've had my head in the sand but hype around the S5 seems muted compared to the S4 last year.
I wonder where this leaves the (both better in my opinion) Z2 and M8?

So sad to read so much spite & negativity all based on allegiance to a mobile phone brand! I can only presume this is due to either inferiority complex or what must be a horrible realization that you've possibly made a bad choice in the past & are desperately scrambling to vent justification to lessen insecurities.
Surely it would be more sensible to wait until real time figures & stats come out for a proper comparison of sales & a devices' success rate?
For all of you who still feel the need to bash competing brands & display your insecurities, please consider the following infamous phrase those of us without such levels of desperation can appreciate: -
