We almost get every some news how great the S5 is sold, usually if this kind of things happen the opposite is true.
I would say this is pure marketing trying to hide the truth..
Looking at the markets where the HTC One & Z2 is available the S5 is almost out the game like in Taiwan, see here.. (use chrome to translate)

As for the camera, are you kidding? Z1/Z2 take better pictures? We clearly must not see the same thing :)
The Sony devices are known to have good sensors but take shitty pictures compared to Samsung devices.
Just check the comparisons on this very site between the Z1/Z2 and the S4/S5...

Better resolution, no but better screen with a lot more brightness, yes.
Water/dust resistance.
Better camera.
A lot (can't stress this enough) faster, completely lag free.
Looks great when you see it in person and feels great in hand.
Fingerprint scanner.
Much better battery life.
I could go on :)
I actually like the fact that they didn't increase the resolution and added a lot of gimmicks.
Usually, on each new flagship, there was a new, faster SOC, so they increased the resolution, added bloat, and it meant that even though the phone is faster, it's still at its limits with the new resolution and whole bunch of stuff running in background, and also affects the battery.
This time, they kept the resolution while putting a much faster SOC, and reduced the amount of bloat, made Touchwiz a lot lighter than before.
All these things mean that the battery life is now amazing, and the phone feels incredibly smooth and fast.
I think it was a great choice on their part.
If they had increased the resolution to 2K, it would mean the CPU/GPU would need to push 60% more pixels, which would probably mean that the lag would be back, and the battery would suffer quite a lot as well.
So, if they had increased the resolution, it'd be the same experience as with previous flagships (same battery life and lags), and I don't think the resolution of the screen would have been worth it.. especially since it's most likely difficult to see the difference between 1080p and 2K on a 5.1 inch screen.
Also, with Kit Kat, 2GB ram is more than enough.

Its camera is clearly competing with the one on the lumia 1520 and is visibly better than the one on the Z1 compact which is essentially the same camera module on the Z1 and Z2.

It's consumers' fault that Samsung doesn't try to change their (ugly)design language. It's also the same reason they still don't except the on screen buttons on android, even though there's immersive mode on 4.4 for sometime now.
Anyway, they will manage to keep the hype alive for a while. When the mass know that it's just the hype, it will be too late for them. With their S5, other than their ugly design which is a little bit subjective. Surely, their phone is not the leader beast anymore.
With 2GB RAM while others went to 3GB already. Their Exynos chip is not the best anymore but now a second class chip for their second market country. The least battery capacity @2,800mAh also available on the S5 with LG and Sony top the game with 3,200mAh this year. Hello, what about a single speaker placed at the back of the phone? Do you think dust and waterproof is something new? Their camera is not the best on Android anymore, they had lost to Xperia Z1-Z2 now.
Honestly, I don't see any reason to buy the S5 instead of the Xperia Z2. It's reasonable when S2-S4 arrived as I owned S2 and S4. But it's just pure marketing for the S5. It's beyond ridiculous.

its sad that they are selling so many phones because they will never correct the crappy chrome bezels that chips off even though you take good care of your phone. am from the Caribbean where phones are expensive and when you pay so much for a high end phone you want good build material very disappointing.If is not broken they will never fix it

Tell me one thing that S5 does better. More ram? No. Better resolution? Hell no. Bigger bezels, still plastic, still ugly. I start to think people are mentally challenged for being so loyal to a brand, especially one that is clearly moving to the wrong direction.
