what's the point of this after more than 1 year?
From this I understand that people that notice this problem went to the warranty service didn't want to fix it then the customer is forced to go on another service paying 50$ to fix it. And now after 1 year there are no people that has this problem. Good "Job" apple.

The one who gave an example of recalls in the auto industry... was just that. An example of a recall in the auto industry. Never did he say that this was a "recall" from Apple.

Mate, your comment screams that Apple is supposed to recall all their iPhone5 devices to avoid even a future possibility of a failing power button. No phone manufacturer will ever do that - only defective units get serviced/replaced because it's a cost to Apple afterall. Should I blame it on your wording? I wouldn't want to.

        Cheers

Someone, 28 Apr 2014I am glad people pay a lot of money for quality. /rofl. ... morethere are many reasons why hundreds of millions of people still own an iphone. Therefore please don't think you can just "judge" these millions of people with your tiny little mind. Nothing is perfect. The point is they are willing to fix it free of charge. That's service. Samsung S5 Camera has defects too so grow up and face reality.

Why people still buy iPhones is a riddle. iPads yeah, better quality. But iPhones, no.

Anonymous, 28 Apr 2014Glad to hear that Apple treat customers well =)About damn time! My iPhone 5 has already had power button replaced 4 times. Can't understand how hard it can be to develop a working and durable button. "The sleep/wake button mechanism on a small percentage of iPhone 5 models may stop working or work intermittently", oh really...

Anonymous, 28 Apr 2014Well, if you think I lack logic, you definitely lack some b... moreYou're right this is more similar to a warranty extension than a recall. This is no more of a marketing ploy than when Samsung had to replace the batteries on their S4s or any other replacement program out there. The only difference is that Apple actually set up a dedicated procedure to do it rather than Samsung just telling people to bring it to a service center after there was media exposure of the topic. And yes, like you want to point out, it's a warranty extension. Of course they only fix affected devices, just like Samsung offered to do. That's what a warranty does.

As you should well know, when there are replacement programs of this size, people will send in their devices regardless of whether or not their device exhibits this issue. They never said they weren't going to fix it if you're phone doesn't exhibit the problem, they just said no action is required. They're not going to check every single phone to see if a well known and admitted problem occurred. That's just a logistical/customer service nightmare for a relatively small number of phones.

You also seem to take issue with the fact that the device has to qualify. What parts of their qualification criteria do you disagree with?

Jeez... I was simply saying 1) what recall is, 2) why this Apple program is not a recall, and 3) that this program announcement is just a marketing move. The rest is your overactive imagination. I'd be curious to hear which one of the three points listed above is so utterly illogical and nonsensical to deserve so many "wows". :) And, as regards to the whole recall topic, the person I was responding to already clarified his point, and I agreed with him, so this is hardly worth discussing anymore...

If you haven't heard... It seems like Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5's are having some faulty cameras out-of-the-box. They just don't work. Should Samsung recall all the "freakin" S5 units just because only Verizon CDMA models turned out to be defective?

Hope you're not a business major mate... Because that's not how the industry (and this world) works. Oh, and like the other guy said, welcome to the real world.

People were wondering how it is even possible to have something faulty on a phone that commands such a premium price, to which I explained, (in a round-a-bout way) that almost all consumer goods are subject to fail from time to time.

Hence my comparison to BMWs costing upwards of $50,000 & the occasional quality control issue.
